waiting for the R to M adapter

Like most of us I am bemused why the new R to M adapter has not yet been released.While waiting for my Leica M, I bought a couple of R lenses to use on my new M. I also bought an uncoded adapter. However I seem to be unable to code this adapter. I have seen the code 110111 which I presume is the correct code displayed in images in the Forum as both 3 black and also 2 black first then a gap and the other blacks. I also have a Coder kit. I'm sure there is a simple way to do this but I haven't found it yet! I would prefer to have Leica's own adapter but in the meantime ... Any suggestions please?

I have a Leitax adapter for some of my R lenses. Although it has the coding slots I've been unable to get it recognised by the M(240). I've made sure the black and white paint I've used is opaque to infrared.

 

The type and layout of the coding sensors on the M(240) are different than those of the M8/9. I believe it's been previously reported that the M(240) appears to be more finiky about coding tolerances than the earlier cameras.

The 6-bit code must be read from left to right, as we write, when looking at the back of the lens and the code is at the 12 o'clock position. A '1' represents a black patch; a '0' is a white patch. So it's two black patches, followed by a white patch (or just a blank when the bayonet flange surface is white metal), followed by three black patches. Each patch is two millimeters wide.

 

Furthermore, normally the camera accepts a 6-bit code only when the framelines selected by the lens match the coded lens. For example, if you code a Zeiss 35 mm lens as "Summicron-M 50 mm" then the camera will reject the code because it says, "50 mm," while the lens does not actuate the 50 mm framelines. However, the R-Adapter-M is an exception. The original Leica adapter actuates the 28/90 framelines but the camera will also accept a coded adapter that actuates the 50/75 framelines (which is what the Novoflex adapters do). But then, I don't know if the camera will also accept the 35/135 framelines. So if your adapter uses the 35/135 framelines then maybe that's the reason why your do-it-yourself code doesn't work ...

Got fed up waiting for the Leica adapter.

 

Having not used my Nikon gear for many years I now find I am too puny to use the M with my 280/2.8.

 

Must spend some time in the gym......:D

Interesting, when I got my novoflex adaptor a month ago it was not coded:(. Is yours machined or just inked?

No...... it has drilled black pits and a correctly sized white stripe as per normal six bit lens coding in the right place..... it's very difficult to tell if it is recessed or just painted on.... so it's hard to tell whether it will survive repeated removal/attachment

 

I too was surprised when it arrived earlier this week and found it worked straightaway......

thighslapper - any idea why the black bits are drilled and the white is a milled line? I thought that the only key marks are the black ones. Has anyone else managed to get black marks drilled and recognized as black bits by the M? If so, what size drill bit did you use? I have three Jin flanges which work perfectly with the M9 and are not read at all by the M.:confused:

Got the white stripe in right position but I'm missing the drilled holes :(, unfortunately it does not get detected by the M either. Sorry for poor picture quality (iPhone)

How does the list of R-lenses look like on the camera screen when you engage the adapter? I seem to get the lising of M-lenses only.
