cbretteville Posted March 28, 2008 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Digilux 2 is being sent to Solms as its sensor is failing. The Norwegian distributor was rather skeptical with regards to the warranty still being in place for a camera sold in 2004. Did someone save/print the press release Leica issued in December 2006? It has conveniently disappeared after the Leica web site was redesigned. I'd really appreciate if someone could post a scan or pm me. Thanks, - Carl

dugby Posted March 28, 2008 Share #3 Posted March 28, 2008 When I noticed it had disappeared off the US website, I kept a copy of the UK link which was <http://www.leica-camera.co.uk/news/news/1/3898.html> But this too has now gone..... It was terrific of Leica to offer and honour the extended warranty, I am very grateful to Leica for doing this, but I guess it couldn't go on forever..... I am one of the fortunate ones to benefit from the D2 extended warranty, and have since purchased 6 more Leica products.
cbretteville Posted March 28, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted March 28, 2008 Roey, Way back in my head I knew I'd read that someone did just that. I know I printed the page, but have no idea where that sheet of paper is now. Dugby, That is the brick wall I've been hitting. All references go to the old site. - Carl

Maarten Posted March 30, 2008 Share #8 Posted March 30, 2008 Dear Carl, I live in Holland and my Digilux 2 was serviced in November. I got it back within 6 weeks with a new sensor and no questions asked. I only had to pay Euro 20.- (excuse me NOR 156.95) to my dealer as contribution to the shipping costs. The camera was loaded with new firmware as well. I found two changes compared to the old firmware: 1) I could not use the viewfinder when taking a picture and the screen for the review function as I could previously 2) the connection with the USB remote software is lost I consider these changes details because the rest of the camera is functioning as perfect as before! Be patient with your distributor in Norway and get in touch with Solms in case you are not satisfied with the local service you get. Maarten
leicahk Posted March 31, 2008 Share #9 Posted March 31, 2008 Hi there, hk New Zealand. I have a pdf file if you do need it! Here is the text: 12/13/2006 - Leica Camera AG is offering all owners of the LEICA DIGILUX 2 a customer service free of charge even beyond the stated warranty period. Specifically, this refers to exchanging the digital camera's sensor in the case of a rarely occurring malfunction. Leica Camera AG has opted for this extended warranty due to the fact that there have been a few reports of this malfunction caused by faulty manufacturing which also affects some other makes' cameras. Prolonged use of the camera in tropical climate conditions has occasionally led to effects such as black stripes in the image or even a totally black image. This malfunction can be the result of sensors whose specifications do not meet the respective Leica Camera AG production and testing standards. Even though the malfunction occurs only after prolonged use in extreme conditions, i.e. perhaps even after the warranty period has expired, thanks to the service described here, the LEICA DIGILUX 2 customers can rely on having their camera repaired free of charge over a longer period of time. Thus, supported by this measure, Leica Camera AG is ensuring that the LEICA DIGILUX 2 will retain its value after having been discontinued.

sketchguy Posted March 31, 2008 Share #11 Posted March 31, 2008 Interesting! I literally just posted about having to send my D2 in for repair (was having "no power" issues) and after speaking with Leica NJ this morning, was informed that updating the CDD was one of the items being worked on (and if i recall correctly, this was covered in the extended warranty) - they are also replacing the circuit board and adjusting the auto focus. Cost to me will be $487.50 and approximate return date by May 21st. -Steve
