wparsonsgisnet Posted July 27, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would like to revive the Many Eyes project and suggest the following 3 rules: 1. A Leica body and lens must be used. 2. You must post your pix in the picture thread. -- Post up to 3 of your best pix, here: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/other/133344-many-eyes-2010-picture-thread.html (you will be allowed to change your choices) Note: this book is not judged. – submit work you want to see in print! 3. Submissions may be made through Friday, Sept. 20, 2010. I suggest we call this book, “Many Eyes, One Camera – 2010” I would edit the book in the same format as last time – UNLESS people want changes. For example, there were no page numbers. If you want page numbers, either the picture must be smaller on the page, or we should use the 11x14 book size. In the first case, the pix will be smaller; in the second, the book will cost more. After we gather pix, I’ll solicit info for the hi-res pix and the appendix details. Advertisement Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Hi wparsonsgisnet, Take a look here Many Eyes – 2010. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted July 27, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 27, 2010 Bill I think you need to tell people what the criteria for inclusion within the book will be. Does EVERY shot on the thread go in, or is there a filtration process that goes on? Thanks Andy
wparsonsgisnet Posted July 27, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted July 27, 2010 No filtration. As before, post your best pix.
andybarton Posted July 27, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 27, 2010 So, how many shots are you looking for and how many (max) from each person?
wparsonsgisnet Posted July 27, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted July 27, 2010 Up to 3 pix, as above, and when we get some reponses, I'll suggest closing the submissions. The first of these books was fairly democratic in construction.
farnz Posted July 27, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 27, 2010 Would it be 'one camera' as last time, ie the M8, Bill? Pete.
wparsonsgisnet Posted July 27, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted July 27, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pete, I proposed above that we'd require some piece of Leica equip, lens and/or body. This makes the entry more broad. If we do the M9, I think we restrict the entrants even more than for the M8 (which was out more than 1 year during the process). How 'bout some commentary on "any Leica equipment?"
andybarton Posted July 27, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 27, 2010 If you're going to produce a "Leica" book, then you need to have a "Leica" element. If you are just producing a book of photographs, then you don't. If it were my project, which it obviously isn't, I would insist on both body AND lens being Leica. farnz Posted July 27, 2010 Share #9 Posted July 27, 2010 Pete, I proposed above that we'd require some piece of Leica equip, lens and/or body. This makes the entry more broad. If we do the M9, I think we restrict the entrants even more than for the M8 (which was out more than 1 year during the process). How 'bout some commentary on "any Leica equipment?" With the greatest respect, Bill, if it's "any Leica equipment" wouldn't there be a danger of it being very similar to the Leica User Forum Charity book (and perhaps inadvertently competing with it)? Pete.
wparsonsgisnet Posted July 27, 2010 Author Share #10 Posted July 27, 2010 The first book only required an M8 body. Many used a non-Leica lens. Votes, please.
storybrown Posted July 28, 2010 Share #11 Posted July 28, 2010 I think a new "Many Eyes" is a great idea - "any Leica equipment" - but I would equally go for any Leica body & lens. Also, I don't think it competes with anything (& if it were to, that's OK, too) . . . You'd prolly need a sticky, &c, to effectively circulate the invitation . . . erl Posted July 28, 2010 Share #12 Posted July 28, 2010 Here is a "Devil's Advocate" question. Are we getting into the 'too many books' syndrome? As far as I am concerned, there is no problem coming up with images, but it seems that with the advent of 'easy' book production we may, just may, be diluting the overall impact of the book idea. Roughly similar to the weakening of 'image impact' caused by the proliferation of digital technology.
wparsonsgisnet Posted July 28, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted July 28, 2010 I happen to think that it's the Leica glass that is the reason for the images we get. How about a title of "Many Eyes, One Lens" and a requirement to use a Leica lens?
spylaw4 Posted July 28, 2010 Share #14 Posted July 28, 2010 "One lens" implies (at least to me) a specific single focal length lens e.g. every shot with say summicron 35. Now is there a germ of an idea there? Except that we probably will argue through 7 or 8 pages of bandwidth about which lens !
jaapv Posted July 28, 2010 Share #15 Posted July 28, 2010 I would say Leica body and lens
poptart Posted July 28, 2010 Share #16 Posted July 28, 2010 I would like to see any Leica body but only one particular lens (to be determined by popular vote or...????)
wparsonsgisnet Posted July 28, 2010 Author Share #17 Posted July 28, 2010 I can live with a Leica body and lens, but I think we miss something if we require a single focal length.
jaapv Posted July 28, 2010 Share #18 Posted July 28, 2010 I would like to see any Leica body but only one particular lens (to be determined by popular vote or...????) Problem is you exclude everybody without access to that lens.
tollie Posted July 28, 2010 Share #19 Posted July 28, 2010 Bill, Would you accept a panorama, stretched across 2 pages and have that count as two of the three submissions? Or would that create too many layout complications...
wparsonsgisnet Posted July 28, 2010 Author Share #20 Posted July 28, 2010 Todd, I would count a panorama across 2 pages as one pic. We did a cross-page triptych in the first volume that only counted as 1 pic.
