How does the new "Thanks" button work?

I pressed it and it added a panel underneath the post and added my username to the panel to show that I'd thanked the poster but I'm not sure of the button's purpose unless it's just a quick way of showing support for a post without adding a comment.

Anybody ... ?

Pete.

Edit: PS, Only an "Edit" and "Quote" buttons appear at the bottom of my post but I presume that the Edit button will be replaced with the Thanks button when my editing period has finished.

Can anyone else see my "Thanks" button and if so would you mind kindly pressing it so that others can see the panel I mentioned above please?

(Ah, I see my thread has been rolled into an existing thread. Thanks, Mods/Andreas.)

The Hasselblad forum uses this Thanks extension too, and it is indeed a way of saying "Thanks" without the need to add a post.

"Thanks" also get added up, so very helpful people will get a lot of thanks. Less helpful people won't.

Somehow the button is there, but the tally in the lefthand box has disappeared. Obviously a work in progress :) So I was able to thank Andy and remove it Nice :)

As I posted a few months back, I would like to see a 'Like' button below pictures, so that viewers can indicate that they like a picture without having to think up a comment. This is similar to the facebook feature which allows the same thing.

Is this possible with the "Rate Thread" buttom?

That's exactly what the Thanks button is thought for.

Not only for images but can be used like that.

Best regards from Bonn

This is a good idea Andreas. We shall see how members actually use it. People of like minds or opinions will soon be more visible.

By the way,

Right now I see the message with the Thanks in German on this English thread here.

At least there's not a "Thumbs down" button too

Personally I'd prefer that.

Showing the names by default could make a thread look messy if a lot of people say thank you. Does the software have any means of 'collapsing' the names and just showing a count?

Can I just disable it, please ?

p.s. Can this be used by 'repeat-pumpers' to pump images back to the top of the Photo Sections ? Oh dear, some will be disappointed. :-(

Don't you want to be thanked when you're helpful?

I'd spend more time working out who hadn't thanked me often enough !

Would Azzo be prevented from multiple thanks. Then there's those with dual personalities. ;-)

Maybe not a great idea after all.

Folgender Benutzer sagt

Danke zu rolo f

Deinen Dank l

Pardon ??

Threads will be massive.

and one line would definitely be better than three, IMHO:

Danke zu andybarton f

The pro: I can acknowledge people who have commented on my picture without bumping my picture. That's particularly handy if the comments were not all in favour of my picture. I know, it's a contrived case.

The con: Just clicking a button instead of typing the member's name and "thank you for your useful comment" might seem to bit on the terse side for some members with a reading and writing background.

We might be on the verge of witnessing a shift of cultures in this forum. Signatures might spring to life saying "click don't write thanks", "thank don't bump" or "thanks in writing preferred" or some such.

It's admittedly a problem but not one which keeps me awake at nights.
