Using FARUX panorama ring and FIAVI bracket

Can (the few) users advise on how to use the FARUX panorama ring (with its many numbers on rings) and the FIAVI bracket, with prewar cameras?

I think there are click-stops at steps/angles for positioning the camera, but I'm not sure how to use the combined set with a ball head. Pictures would help, as would a copy of the instructions - if someone has these?

What is the purpose of the elongated hole in the middle of the FIAVI bracket?

I think the bracket came in two versions, with large (European) and small (North American) tripod threads (and mounting screw).

The oval hole is there so that when shooting vertically the "ear" or "strap lug" is inserted and the camera lies perfectly flat on its side attached to FIAVI.

The numbers on the FARUX (1-9) indicate the number of shots to do a complete 360 degree panorama with a 50mm lens. I don't remember the others, but they probably are angular increments (I use a different panorama adapter and that is what they are on mine).

Hi

The second set of numbers are for when the camera is vertical rather than horizontal, needing more exposures to cover the same sweep.

You need to be careful as there is almost no overlap on the sequential exposures.  The click stops are very light, more of an indication of where the next exposure should be taken, rather than a good 'stop',  Although I have one, these days it is much easier to shoot overlapping pictures and stich them together with Hugin on the computer.

An alternative if you are just using a 50mm lens is the panorama head from a Rolleiflex TLR which has a locking detent, released by a catch.
