Hi

I have a Leica R8. First I used a black and white film – everything worked perfect. Now I switched to colour and on some photos there is an orange stripe. It seams to appear only when I use a low exposure but I'm not 100% sure. Do you know what that could be?

Here are the pics: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B58dONXyQTWRflV3RVFkMDhpdjdyRFZVRVp4Tk9OMmkwOGQ2NUdMYWU3NVUwblk0TWVGOEU&usp=sharing

Thanks

Andi

Probably a light leak. My R8 developed a leak at the film indicator window at the back; the seal looks OK but isn't. Rather than bother to have it fixed, I simply stuck a strip of black insulating tape over the window and solved the problem. Yours might be a completely different cause, but it's worth trying this as a quick check, if only to eliminate one possible cause.

I would agree with John's idea as the most likely cause, but it could be the processing if it has only happened on one film?

First do as John has suggested taping over the window and try another roll of film.

If that eliminates the problem the foam seal around the film indicator window is easy to replace - Leica may send you one if you ask nicely or you can buy foam kits off ebay. Or just keep it taped up if you're not bothered about it.

Chances are if the window foam has gone bad,  replace all the foam or you will chase leaks one by one.

The foam loses elasticity and gets sticky/gummy as it ages.

I fixed all my Nikons with yarn seals and they will outlast the camera..   Movie cameras are made this way from the start.
