Advertisement Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Hi stevem7, Take a look here Leica X1 video with AF demo. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
c6gowin Posted December 25, 2009 Share #2 Posted December 25, 2009 Thank you for the video. The af speed seemed very usable in the conditions of your video. That af speed won't bother me.
Guest stnami Posted December 25, 2009 Share #3 Posted December 25, 2009 Thanks Steve......... how about marginal light?
stevem7 Posted December 25, 2009 Author Share #4 Posted December 25, 2009 Thanks. It was pretty dim in that room. I also shot it at night trying my hand at some street shooting with it. Those results will be up soon. Thanks! Steve
Dan States Posted December 25, 2009 Share #5 Posted December 25, 2009 Steve, thanks for taking the time to post this video. All the bla bla and in the end the camera works fine...Jeesh. Did I see the bucket beaters in front of Macy's in Chicago in the images at the end of the video?
Driver8 Posted December 25, 2009 Share #6 Posted December 25, 2009 Just posted this one my site. Hope it is helpful for some. Steve, Thank you for posting this demonstration. I've now decided to buy the X1. I'm in love with this little camera!
SiOnara Posted December 25, 2009 Share #7 Posted December 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I used the demo model at the Leica store in London and the AF speed was the same as it is in your video. I think its fine. Totally workable. As fast as my D-Lux 4 and I have never really missed a shot with that. 95% of the photography I do is slower based action, for that 5% where I need the extra speed, I am sure I can find a good work around. Looking forward to trying out the final camera now.
peterb Posted December 25, 2009 Share #8 Posted December 25, 2009 The demo made more sense of the AF than the writings of various reveiwers which seemed to poison the well a bit. So while X1's AF may not be LIGHTING fast it's certainly speed of sound (and reaction time and anticipation) fast. Hmmmm...that's good enough for me. My hearing is going anyway. "SMILE EVERYBODY!!!" vicpeh Posted December 25, 2009 Share #9 Posted December 25, 2009 Well, on the prototype X1 I handled in Sep at the local Leica event, the AF is at least as fast as my DL4 if not better.
jsrockit Posted December 26, 2009 Share #10 Posted December 26, 2009 Looks sufficient to me.
MarkM6 Posted December 26, 2009 Share #11 Posted December 26, 2009 Looks sufficient to me. I am sure people are not saying that the speed is insufficient. They want to be at least as fast as, say GF1, especially for a $2000 camera. The real world test should be trying to shoot a kid at play with this camera and see what percentage of the photos are in focus. The video did not show how usable this camera for moving subjects.... Guest stnami Posted December 26, 2009 Share #12 Posted December 26, 2009 The real world test should be trying to shoot a kid at play within two to three meters of this camera.............
nhabedi Posted December 26, 2009 Share #13 Posted December 26, 2009 I am sure people are not saying that the speed is insufficient. They do.
ericperlberg Posted December 26, 2009 Share #14 Posted December 26, 2009 The real world test should be trying to shoot a kid at play within two to three meters of this camera............. only if your real world involves shooting kids at play within two or three meters of the camera. others of us live in different real worlds. nothing is for everyone except birth and death. ericperlberg Posted December 26, 2009 Share #15 Posted December 26, 2009 It is about how a camera copes with the situation not the subject, I could have written your local riot, street fight , lager louts etc ....... it's about AF and movement............ if that's what you shoot then that's your test. means nothing to me... Guest Posted December 26, 2009 Share #16 Posted December 26, 2009 They do. This is sadly a correct statement. nahabedy had the X1 as his symbol and I posted the first (enthusiastic) comment. Later I began to realize that this model is nothing more then a stepping stone into the LEICA system for the ones ready for it. Asking the triple ammount of the street price level at which the DP2 does not find customers, directs either to a 2nd hand M8 with any a 25-28mm lens (buying a high ISO M10 later) or to a M9 with a 35mm. The M5 - CL accountants' nightmare made sure that almost 30 years later a X1 without proper manual focussing or speed will meet the real wolrd. IMO this is unfortunatelly not a Boxter, but a one cylinder Harley Davidson.
ericperlberg Posted December 26, 2009 Share #17 Posted December 26, 2009 I never asked anything from you nor did I care , whatever you are............. apparently you care or you wouldn't resort to language like this when someone else states a different opinion than yours. denial? btw, didn't you meant query?
ericperlberg Posted December 26, 2009 Share #18 Posted December 26, 2009 There never was an opinion I merely asked how it would cope with taking images at 2-3 meters and used kids as an example.... don't know what you are rabbiting on about..... what is the language problem, all I did was respond to your don't care by stating that I don't care about you? "When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in a rather scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean – neither more nor less."
