Who's ready to buy one now? :)

P.S. It seems that dpreview.com is the only source of this info so far. Google/bing and leica's homepage don't show this so far...

let´s say two bodies (main and backup)

three-four lenses

grip

professional charger

.......

50.000€ ??????

i don´t know how reliable is this info, but if it´s true, sure that owners of phase and hasselblad are laughing right now.

at this price for a new system (which is what you need JUST to start), hardly they´ll sell what they need to keep running.

hope some common sense appears somewhere near solms. seems they´re following the yellow bricks road.....

jrc,

The press release at dpreview.com says the UK price includes 15% VAT. Nevertheless, yes, I believe the price is higher than what people from this forum were hoping for.

$23,000 IS the equivalent in dollars before VAT. 15996 British pounds would be more like $27,000.

As a owner of a complete Phase system I can assure you I am not laughing. I'm actually sad that leica is having the wet dream on prices after all the pounding about all of this once again it went on deaf ears. Clearly not listening to people that ACTUALLY shoot MF digital and know the market extremely well and what these systems can do without all the marketing hype attached to it. It's clear to me they are not even remotely close to try and get the Pro's in the door that have to make the ROI needed to justify it's costs. In this market and at these prices this is a serious ROI risk. Given what a P30+ and H3/31 are at the very low end on costs and running many tests on the bigger backs it clearly will make Hassy and Phase sales grow more. End of the day it will serve no one well including Leica. SAD

Well for me one less thing to think about when on vacation starting tomorrow. I know this will all explode into a nightmare by than so everyone take care and remember it is only a camera , life goes on. Check in later

The first, and most important, market for Leica to crack will be the big urban gear rental houses. Given Leica's spotty reliability and support history with digital this will be a real tough sell, particularly in a tough economy. Nobody needs this camera today and even fewer need a whole new system. I'm sure Leica will try bribing some celebrity snappers to publicize how "awesome" and "unmatched" the S2 is. But this sure seems like a strategic blunder to me.

Well that would be a big price - but I'll wait for Leica to announce it - or at least confirms it. DP Review is okay by me, but I'll wait for the absolute figures.

Certainly, if true, the lenses seem much more reasonable than I would have expected. R10, anyone?

Please do . I have one of the hottest 150mm 2.8 lenses on the market for my Phase system and it is deadly but 3100 USD. Now that is even a little high. Most expensive Mamiya/Phase lens the 28mm f4 D tops out at 4800 or so from a good dealer. Not doing any of the lens conversion prices for the S2 but immediately I don't see anything approaching less than 4k. Am I missing something here but the lens prices are choking me and a normal lens at 4300 USD without the central shutter and with at 5600. Even the best lenses for a tech camera made are not this high. Does the phrase i will stick with what i have sound reasonable. Certainly does to me. LOL

Questions, questions...

Does a charger come with the camera? Is there a non-professional charger?

S2-P. Is that "P" for professional? $5,000 extra for a scratch resistant LCD cover and "good" service? (Whatever that entails.) What kind of service do you get for the "amateur" model for only $26,000? How are they ever going to keep up with the demand?

Yes you are missing something... the prices of the other lenses that will be made in the future. The 24, the 30 TS, the zoom, the 300 or 350 is it? A two camera 6 lens system could approach $100,000. But what's that to me?
