jaapv Posted July 16, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is indeed a bit sluggish. Acceptable but that is all. I am using Panasonic 16 GB Gold class 10 cards which are rated read 90 write 25. I just inserted a Lexar Professional 16 GB class 10 600x card. I couldn't believe my eyes - startup is virtually instantaneous.. Switch on - lift to eye- the camera is already waiting for me. And C is simply continuous - I stopped the experiment at 100 shots in just over a minute..... Although it varies with the shutterspeed. With 1/2 sec it is a steady 2/sec, with 1/100th it is discontinous bursts with steady parts in between. Annoying, but still very good. I will try to get a 900x card ( haven't found one yet)next and see what happens It seems the buffer can write as fast as the card can accept.

Guest odeon Posted July 16, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 16, 2013 I have same experience. I used 16GB SDHC Memory Card Extreme Class 10 R/W:30. The start up time is around five seconds. I bought a SanDisk 64GB SDXC Memory Card Extreme Pro Class 10 UHS-I R/W:95/90. The time is maximum one second. It's incredible speed update.
jaapv Posted July 16, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted July 16, 2013 And another thing. Liveview blackout has been reduced to about 1/4 second. Still not the zero we would like to have but which seems to be technically impossible, but quite an improvement too. If a really fast card cures the lockups some of us are experiencing we would be living in an ideal world.
Photoskeptic Posted July 16, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 16, 2013 Jaap, I switched to the Lexar cards about a year ago when problems arose with some SanDisk cards in other people's cameras. I've never had a problem with SanDisk and still use them in my Nikon, but for the Leica's it's Lexar.

furcafe Posted July 16, 2013 Share #7 Posted July 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've had a similar experience w/the Sandisk 32GB Extreme Pro in my 240. Unless one plans on sharing cards w/an M9/M-E/Monochrom, it seems that the Sandisks are a fine choice for the new M. I have same experience.I used 16GB SDHC Memory Card Extreme Class 10 R/W:30. alexander Posted July 16, 2013 Share #10 Posted July 16, 2013 I have this one... sandisc extreme pro SDHC 1 95MB/s...... 16GB. It did not improve the start up speed....... I wonder because it is a fast card..... ??? So those the "SDXC" make the improve in speed? the "X" is only available with 64 GB............
jaapv Posted July 16, 2013 Author Share #11 Posted July 16, 2013 No - the X is only the capacity standard.
jaapv Posted July 16, 2013 Author Share #12 Posted July 16, 2013 The problem appears to be in the writing speed. Some cards have a high read speed like 90 MB/sec, but only read 10 MB/sec. You need a card that is fast in both read and write. This one is 90/90 and the one Odeon mentions 95/90.
Jeff S Posted July 16, 2013 Share #13 Posted July 16, 2013 The Lexar card you show is on the B&H site, but shows 90MB/s read, 45MB/s write. I couldn't find a 90/90 16GB Lexar card there. Jeff
jaapv Posted July 16, 2013 Author Share #14 Posted July 16, 2013 I got my figures from the supplier here:confused:. Whatever it is, it is far better that the 10 MB/sec write the class 10 spec requires. This is what Lexar has to say on the matter: *Minimum 90MB/s read transfer, write speeds lower. Speeds based on TestMetrix certified tester. Actual sustained speed may vary depending on host device. x=150KB/s. I think my supplier is overly optimistic and B&H on the conservative side. alexander Posted July 16, 2013 Share #15 Posted July 16, 2013 No - the X is only the capacity standard. so why did my card not improve the speed? sandisc extreme pro SDHC 1 95MB/s...... 16GB
jaapv Posted July 16, 2013 Author Share #16 Posted July 16, 2013 It is a 300x card.
alexander Posted July 16, 2013 Share #17 Posted July 16, 2013 It is a 300x card. Interesting, because it say on the web page: "With write speeds up to 90 MB/s (600X) and read speeds up to 95 MB/s (633X) this card " maybe it has something to do with the capacity of the card?? 16 or 64GB? so wich shall I get if I want 16GB? Jeff S Posted July 16, 2013 Share #18 Posted July 16, 2013 My Mac Pro has USB 2.0, compatible with my card reader (Sandisk multicard reader supporting up to 30MB/sec). My current M8.2 works fine with 30MB/s 4GB Sandisk cards, but eventually I'll move to the new M. If so, and I get a card such as the Lexar described, will it still work with my Mac and reader? I'm less concerned about transferring data from card to Mac than making sure that the camera itself is responsive. And I don't want to have to get a newer Mac just yet, since I think internal upgrades to 3.0 are not possible, or at least not practical. lct Posted July 16, 2013 Share #19 Posted July 16, 2013 The faster is Sandisk Extreme Pro according to this review, faster than Lexar 600x by a not insignificant margin, but my startup times don't go below 2 seconds with the former so i am reluctant to buy a Lexar so far. 49 SD and MicroSD cards tested: there's a difference - Test results: 1000x 5 MB writing | Hardware.Info United States There is something curious here. Reminds me of Lindolfi's experience who got one second only with a same card as mine... Or another colleague i don't recall the name sorry. He was claiming one second with a Samsung card and when i bought the latter i got 2.5 seconds only. Jaap, might i suggest that you press the shutter release before switching the cam on and check your startup time again?
