tappan Posted July 29, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) VERY frustrating, as I missed an important photo. I snapped one photo and the exposure was not what I wanted (MY MISTAKE) so I then wanted to just delete that one SINGLE photo. I deleted the one single photo and my camera locked up. The only way I could take more photos was to take the battery out for more than a few seconds and then put it back in. This is definitely not what I want happening for the damn money we all have paid for this camera. So, any thoughts from this helpful forum? The card was a Sandisk Extreme 111 8gb. Thanks, Mark

Please, read some of the still active threads in this very M9 forum to get up to speed on this issue. Good luck. Best, K-H.
hydet Posted July 29, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 29, 2011 I don't think I would ever spend time deleting images in the middle of a shoot: not only does it take up valuable time, and take your eyes off the scene, but too many things can go wrong. zeitz Posted July 29, 2011 Share #4 Posted July 29, 2011 What strikes me is that you never see any SD or CF card problems on the S2 forum. Are there just not enough S2 users? Or is there something inherently different in the S2 architecture that is not prone to SD card problems? I've had minor problems myself on my M9 after no SD problems with my M8. Will it take an M10 with really upgraded electronics to fix the problem or is the problem still in firmware? I know CF cards are bigger, but I really prefer CF cards, like in my Nikon D2x. scrubs Posted July 29, 2011 Share #8 Posted July 29, 2011 Utter nonsense LOL While part tongue in cheek - I was simply pointing out that, the M9 is entirely made (apart from Kodak sensor) of Jenoptic components image board, sensor board, the development, image processing and firmware, all Jenoptic. The only thing Leica provided was the specs and the case. The S2 is made entirely in house at Leica. Kind of a bit like when someone says that a panasonic lumix lens is not a real Leica I'm jesting
KM-25 Posted July 29, 2011 Share #9 Posted July 29, 2011 Why would you want to delete a photo before taking that superbly important shot:confused:Doesn't make sense to me? That is not the point, there have been a few times when shooting an assignment I have not had a card within reach for what ever reason and have had to punt a few images to make room even if temporarily for a key shot, it happens in the digital age. Last year, when shooting the very event I am shooting right this moment, I had the the M9 I rented lock up no less than three times in 4 days with removing the battery being the only remedy, luckily, no key shots were lost. This year, I am using my usual Nikon kit and my X100. Now the X100 locks up in doing other things like shooting sequences, bracketed sets or raw which I never have to shoot with this camera because the jpegs are press-ready right out of the camera, more so than even the Nikons. So even though I would love to have a well designed and considerately priced digital M in my kit to use my M glass with, I have a feeling Leica is never getting another dime out of me as what I replaced it with this year has given me nearly 10,000 trouble free images in just over two months. Now just so you don't think I am bashing Leica in it's entirety, I am also shooting Tri-x in my M3 and M6 at the same event. Stop making excuses and diverting attention every single time someone has a valid complaint about the M9, we can see right through it and know why you do it. jaapv Posted July 29, 2011 Share #10 Posted July 29, 2011 Which is nonsense Jenoptic is involved in the firmware, that is all. jaapv Posted July 29, 2011 Share #13 Posted July 29, 2011 I never said it should not happen. I just found it surprising. scrubs Posted July 30, 2011 Share #14 Posted July 30, 2011 Yes and where does he support your statements? from 4:00 onwards... Is Jenoptic involved at all in the firmware development? "Jenoptic is our partner for that camera for the digital part again, so sensor from Kodak and image board and sensor board - the two main electronic PCB's are coming from Jenoptic and also the development on that...The interface and user functions were designed by Leica then we made a specification and this has been worked out by Jenoptic... The S2 is made in house and the M9 is made at Jenoptic."
jaapv Posted July 30, 2011 Share #15 Posted July 30, 2011 Yes Jenoptic is the firmware developer as I said. The sensor/ motherboard supplier is Kodak. I suspect Kodak buys the motherboards at Fujitsu. So what is new? Welcome to the twentyfirst century. Components are sourced worldwide and the final assembly of the M9 is in Solms. tappan Posted July 30, 2011 Author Share #16 Posted July 30, 2011 I am the original poster.....Jaap says: "Why would you want to delete a photo before taking that superbly important shot Doesn't make sense to me?" My answer is.... I was testing the light prior to shooting a friend's wedding and did not want this on the card that SHE GAVE me. In other words, I get off easy on this. She gives me a card or two and I just leave the wedding after giving her back her cards. She is a photographer and I don't have the time to post process all that stuff. Anyway, WHY does that matter? Can anybody tell me if Leica is addressing this problem?

Folks on this forum have been told - I don't know by whom - that Leica has recognized they have a problem and are working on it with Jenoptik and SanDisk. Best, K-H. Btw I am sure you did format the card in the M9 before use?. ( Not to shift blame but to rule out a cause!)
250swb Posted July 30, 2011 Share #20 Posted July 30, 2011 Good point Jaap, a card straight from another make of camera can cause problems, and nothing to do with the price of an M9. Steve
