morffin Posted June 12, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted June 12, 2008 I wish they made a door for the battery since it seems to be a 1-1 ratio of card to battery used.

trs Posted June 12, 2008 Share #7 Posted June 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Aha, $210.00 saved. Now I can go buy something Actually, I really like what comes with M8. It keeps both battery and card very secure, no finicky doors that might open. I already have that with my dSLRs. It just makes M8 less solid IMO. Beside that, I am (personally) really never in hurry to change neither battery or card so far. - I still need to open the door - I still need to eject the card and insert new one - I still need to close the door So, saving is really pop the plate out and back in. Net saving probably is about 5 seconds max? I guess, I still compare having to change film every 36 exposure which take quite a while. So changing battery and card in M8 is peace of cake in comparision. -tanka

trs Posted June 16, 2008 Share #12 Posted June 16, 2008 Regarding USB jack, I had the same thought. Luckily, I could not open cover on mine. So, it is pretty secure as far as mine is concerned for now. I don't need to use it, so I am fine with it. -tanka

andybarton Posted June 18, 2008 Share #15 Posted June 18, 2008 :) Totally agree, except that they should have put the USB jack under the baseplate too. Which would mean you'd have to lay the body on its back if you wanted to connect via USB,,,
dpattinson Posted June 18, 2008 Share #16 Posted June 18, 2008 to paraphrase Mr. Winogrand... "There are no pictures while I'm changing SD cards" I don't know why anyone would imagine Leica didn't think of this. I imagine that they did think of it, realised it would involve at least 2 relatively insecure ports on the base of the camera; would likely require the removal of the camera from a tripod in order to change SD cards or battery. Realised that would make the camera even less robust. Realised that actually it might be faster to just leave the baseplate on the tripod. Maybe, although I think this is stretching it.. also realized it would be a simple after-market accessory and they could leave it for those who really think it's a good idea to provide the solution. Putting the USB port under the baseplate would be insane - given its primary purpose is to enable tethered shooting... how would you mount the camera on a tripod without the baseplate? lct Posted June 18, 2008 Share #17 Posted June 18, 2008 ...would likely require the removal of the camera from a tripod in order to change SD cards or battery. Realised that would make the camera even less robust.. Why so? Why wasting that much time and energy to change a mere memory card? And why risking to loose or damage the baseplate in difficult situations? Most digital cameras have a lateral door which works fine and can be quite robust like that of my Nikons or the Digilux 1 here. Welcome, dear visitor!
