jrh68uk Posted April 3, 2008 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, It may seem a bit odd to bring this up now, but having taken lots of images without IR filtration, and having only two which have looked a bit yukky due to the black-to-magenta effect, I don't plan on using IR filters some of the time. That's mainly because I'm sharing lenses with my M7 and hate to keep changing filters, let alone forking out for more of them. So, I read-up about profiles and came across many items referring to Jamie Roberts and the profiles he made. I gather they were fine-tuned over time, but I can only seem to find v1 profiles dated Nov 17th 2006. The idea is that I'll want to try them out when I've taken a non-filtered pic which needs a bit of correction. Are there newer ones out there somewhere? I've found a few links but most no longer work (eg., the start of "New M8 Profiles and C1 Instructions" on this forum). The only link I managed to find that worked gave me the v1 profiles. Thanks in advance, Jason

jaapv Posted April 3, 2008 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2008 I've got most of them saved. Some are Edmund Ronald''s and as such not freeware. I will look in my computer for your this evening.

Jamie Roberts Posted April 3, 2008 Share #4 Posted April 3, 2008 FWIW, I haven't made any new profiles since the first ones that I've released, though I can imagine a number of ways to tweak the older ones. I was waiting for Leica to fix the white balance and colour a bit more, but as soon as they did that C1 V4 came out and frankly I've been shooting a lot more with filters. I do still plan on making new ones available once V4 Pro comes out (or maybe sooner if that doesn't seem likely) but they also take a fair amount of time to create, since I do more word by hand than through an automated process. The current IR filter profile in C1 is not bad at all, though is still a little messed on green / magenta. That's also on the list to tweak.
jplomley Posted April 3, 2008 Share #5 Posted April 3, 2008 I'm in the same boat as Jason having just purchased the M8 and using C1 3.7.8 for RAW processing. Any help Jaap and jamie could providewould be most appreciated. Not sure how long it will take for my filters to come from Leica.
jrh68uk Posted April 3, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted April 3, 2008 Jamie, thanks for posting. I was hoping you might still be around . I appreciate your input and didn't realize you hadn't released any after v1, so I guess I'm up to date. I've just done a little messing around by photographing an area including my black loudspeaker grilles. Between a black stereo rack and black TV, with the speaker enclusure also black, the only thing to turn magenta, of course, is the grille and it stands out a mile. So, DNG in C1 v4 and generic M8 profile = very magenta grille. Using your v1 profile (not the low_sat one) it all looks as it should, apart from a generally slighly desaturated and flat appearance of the whole image on screen. I have also tried the M8 IR486 profile provided with C1 and it *almost* cures it, but not quite and it looks even flatter. Is the slightly flatter look on screen (compared with generic) what you'd expect? Cheers, Jason
gogopix Posted April 3, 2008 Share #7 Posted April 3, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) i have made a small modification to Jamies (in between his two, that work for some of my types of shots. It is posted on the DPI site. If someone knows how to make available let me know or I can send to Jamie and he can add to his pile. MY value added is quite small but it is a nice alternative at times. Here are two shots that use it; lots of magenta possibilieities (including a tux with satin black lapel! regards Victor Welcome, dear visitor! gogopix Posted April 3, 2008 Share #8 Posted April 3, 2008 BTW this whole magenta issue shows up in other cameras. I see faint items in even MFDB. Here is a DMR image. The coat was BLACK. see the RGB, and the excess red! (crosshairs) Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted April 3, 2008 Share #14 Posted April 3, 2008 Thanks, Viktor, I'll give it a spin! What was your tweak btw? That's better, Jamie, saves work
gogopix Posted April 3, 2008 Share #15 Posted April 3, 2008 not much. I wanted a saturation between two of Jamies with a little of the character of one of the grey phase profiles. I experimented with the M8 files and settled on the one above. It is fairly easy to do once Jamie had gotten the magenta issue fixed. I found it just made the colors a little richer without affecting the overall balance. I still use Jamies originals at times for some images. also dpends a bit on lighting. As a said, it is just a tweak. victor
jrh68uk Posted April 4, 2008 Author Share #16 Posted April 4, 2008 Thanks very much to everyone for responding. Now I know I don't have backlevel profiles from Jamie and I also have Victor's to play with later Best regards, Jason
