In case it is unclear the codes are: Gr GCYOO Or GDOOK 2 GCOOL They don't fit my Summicron 50, the Summaron 2.8 or the Elmar 90 f4 - too small. Can someone tell me what lenses they would fit? Or direct me to a source where I can dig up the information. I don't want to trouble anyone to take time to check it out if I can do it myself. many thanks Welcome, dear visitor! I don't know the pitch. The pitch of the 39mm threaded filters for the 50mm Summicron which succeded the Summitar is 0.5mm. The gear I am working with came from a gentleman who had owned a IIIg, an M2, M3 and the M4 which has fallen into my hands, along with various lenses and bits and pieces. So I guess at some stage he owned a 50mm Summitar. I wish I could find it and the other bodies! I have all the old purchase invoices, brochures and user manuals, but not the cameras:cool: I give thanks that the M4 and a good brace of lenses came down to me. After dinner tonight I may post some other pics of things I am trying to identify. Will there be any vignetting effect in using the 36mm filter on a 39mm filter lens?Dan Normally one don't uses smaller filters on bigger lenses, but the other way around is no problem: so 39mm might be used on a 36mm lens with the right step-down/up ring, but one uses no 36mm filter on a 39mm lens (anyhow it won't fit). btw couldn't find any special pages in Wiki dedicated to Leitz filters. "Leica Filter Adapter SOOEY/13077P (fits E36, E41, & Summarit Bayonet filters to E39mm thread) #1808xxx (10-) " Attached to the lenses in the photos below ... ... permit me to then attach the filters mentioned in my first post above? many thanks Dan The answer is YES, you can : even if, as Ron said, can be risky to mount a filter of smaller diameter than the std.used on a certain lens, you have no problem of vignetting on the lenses (35 and 50mm) you quote : the "step down" introduced by the adapter+filter on is rather small, and those E39 lenses have a ring around the front lens which gives a good "tolerancing". To be supercritical, one could say that it would be better to have a BLACK adapter (but i think that SOEEY doesn't exist in black, differently from Summitar filters) to avoid the risk of light reflections ring-to-glass... but probably, in geometrical terms, is not an issue. I think (should have to try) there is no problem even if you want to mount a hood on your Summicrons 35/50... many types exist... but I think that the classic/conical black metal hood with clamping springs ought to fit normally. With shorter focals the vignetting induced by rings can indeed be a problem... a typical tricky case is the Voigtlander 15mm with "massive" filters. And since this thread started I have browsed examples of photos from the Summitar. I like the look it gives. So I shall keep an eye out for one of those also. I never had any vignetting with the adapted Summitar filters; although I never owned the (E-39) 21mm F/4 Super Angulon. The 12585 lenshade works well with the 35 and 50mm lenses. I have used B&H and KEH in the past and I know of Igor Cameras and Collectible Cameraa, but I have just come across Kevins Cameras who I had not heard of earlier. But I don't want to start another thread within a thread, and I am not sure if this forum permits discussion of dealers. Guest Ron (Netherlands) Posted December 29, 2010 Share #18 Posted December 29, 2010 (edited) Ryan, if you can't find a SOOEY, you can also look for the less known SOOQR which does exactly the same thing: put a summitar filter on a lens which takes 39mm filters. The SOOQR was made from 1954 until 1956, the SOOEY was made as from 1957. Also a nice adapter to have is the FOOXH, in fact it is an empty E39 filterring in which you can put filter-glasses taken from other 39mm filters or from summitar filters. Please note that this only works if you have filters which have rings that let you screw out the filter-glass. So if you buy old filters, you better buy the ones were you can take out the filter-glass instead of the filters with 'pressed' glass. If you can buy a FOOXH, make sure it has the inner ring needed to fasten the filter-glass. Thank you Ron.
