Advertisement Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Hi leica dream, Take a look here lens dust cleaner. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Mark Pope Posted July 23, 2009 Share #2 Posted July 23, 2009 A microfibre cloth. Indispensable for keeping the eyepiece clear of nose-grease caused by using accessory viewfinders! Same for lenses. They only cost a couple of quid. Cheers Mark

kenneth Posted July 24, 2009 Share #6 Posted July 24, 2009 Excellent, thanks. Just the same as I use for my specs.Richard Well no because spectacles cloths are impregnated and the chemicals used can effect the cement in the lens. Micro fibre cloths are fine. I gather photo journalists used thier silk ties
lars_bergquist Posted July 25, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 25, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Silk ties are not recommended. Too abrasive. Use microfiber cloth specially for lens cleaning. Sold in photography shops. As for the screen, I have stopped cleaning it. The grease does not make any difference. alifie Posted July 25, 2009 Share #9 Posted July 25, 2009 I remember Pentax doing a tie made of microfibre material, mind you I never wear a tie (my wedding was the exception). And yes spectacle cloths are impregnated (baby spectacle cloths comming up?) The best microfibre cloth is made by Calotherm it's softer and thicker than the rest. Comes in huge sheets too so you can cut it up and have a bit in every case/bag.
Brent1965 Posted July 26, 2009 Share #10 Posted July 26, 2009 Wee tip I learned from my optomertrist years ago, never use the same "thing" to clean anything more than once. A peice of material stores the debris collected - until washed. He told me to wash my spectacles in hot running water with soap once a day, rinse & shake to dry - works a treat & clean smear free lenses always - and they don't accumulate scratches. For camera bits I use a couple of never used (for snot) but well washed 100% cotton handkerchiefs and lens brush to flick off lint after.
hector_jorge Posted July 31, 2009 Share #11 Posted July 31, 2009 For lens, use an UV filter and clean it with anything you like. Filters are cheaper than lenses. I never buy a lens without the appropiate UV filter that I put on it at the moment of the purchase, on the shop`s counter.
leica dream Posted July 31, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted July 31, 2009 Yes, I agree Hector and have a UV filter even though Leica lenses are supposed to cope with UV. The filters still get dusty though but I take your point that if damaged they are much cheaper to replace. Richard
topoxforddoc Posted July 31, 2009 Share #13 Posted July 31, 2009 I use Pecpads - GBP6 for hundred. Use once and throw away. I use them for lenses, sensors and negative cleaning. Charlie
