roguewave Posted November 24, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 24, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I seem to have a problem in the motor drive portion of m DMR/R8. After the system is turned on and I depress the any of the shutter releases, there is a whirling sound or a couple of seconds, but no shutter release. I called Leica, but the techs are out this week & I guess I'll bring this to NJ sometime next week. Anyone have any idea what this might be? Thanks, Ben
Advertisement Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Hi roguewave, Take a look here DMR problem. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted November 24, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 24, 2008 Take off the DMR, open the back, turn the sprocketwheel to the right until it stops and the "R"button pops up and put everything together again. You have depressed the film return release by accident.

jaapv Posted November 24, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 24, 2008 In that case it does indeed seem that a visit to technical service is indicated, Ben.
topoxforddoc Posted November 25, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 25, 2008 Ben, Have you tried disassembling the DMR and rebuilding it? I've had occasional issues with the DMR not recocking properly. Most things get fixed by a complete reassembly. Charlie
andybarton Posted November 25, 2008 Share #6 Posted November 25, 2008 This happened to me the first time I mounted the DMR base unit on the camera body. Rebuilding it cured it. Although if the rewind button is depressed, that too would mess up the functionality
roguewave Posted November 25, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted November 25, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Charlie, I not only disassembled the camera, but I have 2 other R8's that I tried with the DMR. No go. Andy, the rewind button came back up with the manual firing of the shutter, when I changed the R8 body to it's non-DMR state. When I reassembled the original kit (everything looked good), I got the same whining sound. I think there maybe a clutch problem or linkage issues between the bottom winder & the body. BTW, I have a regular motordrive I use with another R8 for film work. Can that be used on the DMR?
andybarton Posted November 25, 2008 Share #8 Posted November 25, 2008 No - all the computery stuff is in the base Sounds like a trip to Solms is required.
roguewave Posted November 27, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted November 27, 2008 Update: I can use the DMR in a restricted way. All three bottons fire the shuttter & I get my images. I have to cock the shutter manually & I can keep shooting. Sometimes it rquires a dubble stroke to cock the shutter. Does anyone know if this is a clue as why the shutter isn't being reset? rsolomon Posted November 27, 2008 Share #10 Posted November 27, 2008 Ben, i would look at and clean the contacts, both on the camera(s) and the DMR. Good luck - right now my digilux 2 is in NJ......sensor upgrade

Ben: Check/clean your battery contacts or try another battery if you have one. I have one battery that will not recock the DMR if the battery gets low or I shoot a lot of pictures in a short period of time. Robert

I can take the frame & the image is fine. It winds 2 times, but not all the way. Thanks for the info & happy holidays to you & yours, Ben

topoxforddoc Posted November 29, 2008 Share #14 Posted November 29, 2008 Ben, I've had a few intermittent problems over the last 3 years - some just like yours. as the others say, it's usually a connection issue. Charlie
