Advertisement Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Hi graeme_hutton, Take a look here Leica Book Price a Mistake?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
peter_n Posted September 18, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2008 Barnes & Noble is the same: one used at $500. They have it "out of stock" but it must in fact be out of print. That's nice because I have a copy here that I've hardly opened. Plus I have a copy of the original (1st) edition which is perfect. That book could be worth $1000+ if this version is suddenly worth $400 - $500. Suddenly that 24/1.4 is more-or-less paid for...
spylaw4 Posted September 18, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 18, 2008 It is out of print - which possibly explains the pricing. AFAIK there are no plans for a re-print even if one could guarantee sales of several thousand. £15 is a steal of a price for this gem, I paid £25 for mine.. rsh Posted September 18, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 18, 2008 I have this one and the old Morgan & Morgan Leica Manuel with the M5 on the cover. The latter is antiquated, but it is my favorite film reference book.
Guest darkstar2004 Posted September 19, 2008 Share #6 Posted September 19, 2008 Wow. I paid $40 American for my copy. My philosophy of "Never sell off or trade away anything that says Leica on it" seems to be ringing true...
Guest leica_mage Posted September 19, 2008 Share #7 Posted September 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do you know what insanity is? I have three of these, two bubble-wrapped, paid nothing for one and about 20 euros each for the other two. I'll be giving the two new ones as gifts to some SLR people pretty soon as a result of this. arthury Posted September 21, 2008 Share #8 Posted September 21, 2008 Wow, may be it was version 1.0 with aspherical elements in there and it was printed in Germany. I looked at mine and it says "Manufactured in China" ... heehee

ChadHahn Posted September 23, 2008 Share #12 Posted September 23, 2008 I bought a copy a few years ago at a camera show. I bought this one and a copy of Helmut Newtons book with all the issues of his magazine. I thought the HN book was going to be worth some money and the Leica book was going to be on my bookshelf. A used copy of HN was worth about the $6 I paid for it and the Leica book was worth a lot more than the $6. Maybe I should have bought the Leica SLR book as well. dcoombs Posted September 23, 2008 Share #13 Posted September 23, 2008 Note that these are third party sellers, not Amazon as it's out of print. This is their asking price, not a sale price unfortunately.
bill Posted September 23, 2008 Share #14 Posted September 23, 2008 The first one had a (deserved) reputation for spitting all it's pages out, In the dark days when there was no Forum, and very little printed material specific to Leica, it was held up as the Bible for M-enthusiasts and users alike. It's tendency to self-destruct made it rarer, and made mint copies all the more desirable. I know - I had a loose leaf one. Regards, Bill
