jaapv Posted November 15, 2007 Share #1 Posted November 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) What price are DMR's at the moment? I see one on e-bay that is not selling at 3600 Euro (offered for the third time now) Leica DM-R DMR Digital Modul Back for R9 R8 Camera OVP bei eBay.de: Leica (endet 22.11.07 16:35:37 MEZ) I ask because I may be looking for one halfway next year and I want to keep a feeler out for price developments. Advertisement Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Dmr ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted November 15, 2007 Share #2 Posted November 15, 2007 Jaap, there was a dealer in the UK offering one at £2200 - by my calculation that's slightly less than the eBay offering - and it comes with a dealer warrenty. That one sold after a few days. I'd expect there to be more DMRs on the market once the R10 is announced/released, and I'd expect the price to drop - and if the price is right I'd be interested myself. dhsimmonds Posted November 17, 2007 Share #3 Posted November 17, 2007 Steve, you are probably right initially but long term I expect the DMR to become a collectors item and perhaps start to increase in price again. Everything hinges on Leica's R9 introduction plans. If they offer a good deal for DMR's against a new R9 just to get them off the market (a shrewd marketing move in my opinion) the big price fall may not occur. Time only will tell us. andybarton Posted November 17, 2007 Share #4 Posted November 17, 2007 Dave As far as I know, there are very, very few (if any) DMRs still available new. It is also said that production of the R9 was stopped in the summer too.

robert_parker Posted November 18, 2007 Share #7 Posted November 18, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wonder how many DMRs there are in the UK - between Andy, Dave and myself, we may have cornered the market anyway, so to speak - I have to admit the R10 would have to offer a noticable performance improvement to lure me away

There's no way of knowing for sure, of course, but one wonders to what extent the denizens of this forum represent a significant proportion of Leica R/M/LTM users, particularly as opposed (in the case of the older gear) to owners/collectors. Just an idle thought. Regards, Bill

Although its been playing 2nd fiddle to an M8 for several months, it still gets used (with a 28-90 zoom) whenever I don't want to be constantly changing lenses. I'll also be interested to see what the R10 looks like.

rougewave Posted November 19, 2007 Share #12 Posted November 19, 2007 The ebay DMR sold for US $3,900. I just bought a "New, Mint in the Box" from a reputable dealer here in NY. He sold me my first M in 1975. There are 3 other units for sale here, all around $3,900-4,200 US. Here are my first 2 images from the R8/DMR. I welcome and encourage C&C. The camera has a pretty step learning curve and the tools for post production are intimidating, but very cool. This forum is so wonderful to folks like me trying to boot strap themselves. Tim Ashley in Tewkesbury has number 6. Charlie

rougewave Posted November 19, 2007 Share #16 Posted November 19, 2007 Rich & Charlie, thanks for the much needed support. Any rules of thumb about using ISO higher than 100? I upgrade the firmware & thought I that allowed me to use a 4G card, but they don't work. Any Clue? Ben
cmb_ Posted November 20, 2007 Share #17 Posted November 20, 2007 Ben - all my cards are 2GB so I do not have any experience with the 4GB cards. With firmware v1.3 ISO is good at 400 and now OK at 800. I still shy away from 800 but it is much improved over the previous version. Take a look at this thread by Robert Stevens: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/digital-forum/38261-dmr-ver-1-3-firmware-higher.html Are you shooting RAW? Which Raw converter are you using? Yes ALL RAW. I downlowed the Adobe converter for Leopard. Very Cool. It has most of the controls imbedded. It is simpler than the controls in Lightroom, which I use with my 64 bit Windows machine. The colors don't match up at all between platforms, even after switching inputs to either screen, but that's another road. I ordered the new Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS3 book. I'm sure that will help. Are there any presets or general goodies that could guide me in getting a better sence of processing the RAW-DNG? Thanks, Ben
rsolomon Posted November 20, 2007 Share #19 Posted November 20, 2007 Ben, i use 2 gig Extreme III cards, i find this makes a difference in speed for clearing the buffer. 4gig cards are supported with firmware V1.3, however not SDHC cards. if i recall properly transcend makes one IMO: the biggest difference by far on V1.3 was lower noise at the higher (400 and above iso).. second was dramatic improvement in Jpeg support with white balance, There are probably some interesting threads for you to read when V1.3 first became available a few months back. keep asking questions.... btw: i always use little screen proctors for the lcd's on the back of the dmr, i know some feel it isn;t necessary but you should protect your investment Rich
zanydave Posted November 20, 2007 Share #20 Posted November 20, 2007 DMR number 7 here!... Well maybe not here as such, it's away in Solms having a dial re-attached. Other than that, can't fault it. Dave
