Hoaxville Posted July 4, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I read on this forum a while ago that the smallish 35mm Summilux hood could be used to replace the rather bulky hood on the 28mm Summicron. I purchased a 35mm Summilux hood (12589) to do this and while it seems to slide onto the 28 Cron it doesn't seem to 'click' into place at all and it doesn't seem that it will stay on the lens very well. I was hoping it would fit on in a more secure way. Anyone else had a similar or different experience with substituting the 28 Cron hood with the 35 Lux hood? thanks, g http://www.hoaxville.com
Advertisement Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Hi Hoaxville, Take a look here 35 Lux hood on 28 Cron. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
UliWer Posted July 4, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 4, 2010 Unfortunately the hood 12589 is not better on the 35 Summilux. When I try it on the 28 Summicron it also doesn't stay at the proper place but is a little more stabile than on it's original lens. The hood for the 28 is more bulky but I think it's the better solution. The new hood for the last version of the 35 Summilux asph. seems to be much better, though I don't think it will fit on the other lenses.
archi4 Posted July 4, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 4, 2010 My 2 12589 hoods fit and lock perfectly on both lenses. Absolutely unmoveable Turn the ring on the hood so that the red arrow is in the top position (Clockwise if the front of the hood is facing you) Then squeezing the two tabs mount the hood on the lens. This is somewhat fiddly but the hood mus really go all the way on. Then rotate the ring so that the white dot is at the top (counterclockwise if the front of the hood is facing you) so that the white dot coincides with the white dot on the lens. Sorry if you already knew all this!

gravastar Posted July 4, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 4, 2010 One thing to remember when mounting the 35 Summilux hood on the 28 Summicron is not to squeeze the two release tabs too tightly. The hood is already a snug fit over the lens barrel and squeezing too hard flexes the ring at the rear of the hood making it difficult to mount. I use the 35 Summilux hood on the 28mm with the M8 and M9. Bob.
lct Posted July 4, 2010 Share #6 Posted July 4, 2010 Summicron-M 28/2 asph + 12589 hood. Perfect match with crop bodies (M8, R-D1). With full frames i don't know.
Jeff S Posted July 4, 2010 Share #7 Posted July 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) The instructions for mounting the hood were incorrect...see post #13...http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/25921-35mm-summilux-asph-lens-hood-questions.html Done properly, the hood fits perfectly. I use it on my 28 Summicron asph with no issues. Jeff
Hoaxville Posted July 5, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted July 5, 2010 Thanks again for the info guys! I think the 35 Lux hood makes the 28 Cron a more compact lens and therefore less likely to bash into things as has happened on numerous times with the original 28 Cron hood. I shoot with an M8 so the crop makes the smaller hood a perfect match. g -- Welcome to Hoaxville
