Leica M EV1: The first M with EVF instead of Rangefinder
Succisa75 replied to LUF Admin's topic in Leica M EV1
This technology isn’t new. It was around for the S1 and S1R systems that Panasonic has had which predates the M11 release in 2022. -
Leica M EV1: The first M with EVF instead of Rangefinder
Succisa75 replied to LUF Admin's topic in Leica M EV1
As someone who has spent some time with the MEV1 the biggest challenge is the 60fps in the EVF vs 120fps in Q3 and SL3 and the lack of sharpness in the EVF upon magnification. This issue has carried over from the SL3 and not sure why. Leica had a very accurate EVF in the SL and SL2 systems but reverted to a less than accurate result for the SL3. Would it be nice to have subject detection in manual focus like the Nikon Zf? Yes, but the Maestro 3 Processor probably isn’t capable of such technology. Even the Maestro 4 has some hints of it on the SL3 but far from accurate. My recommendation is to use Panasonics’s Picture in Picture manual focus system (since they work with each other on the tech) as this gives you the best of both worlds, magnification in the center of the frame by default, but you can move the box around while still seeing your entire frame. In addition the focus peaking is more accurate all of this is possible with firmware, just if Leica wants to implement it. -
I tried the lenses, I’ve tried Panasonic lenses and sigma and I can tell you these are good. Will the average person be able to tell APO vs these looking at a photo? Prob not. APO lenses are fantastic but that doesn’t mean they are the be all to end all. Use the tool that helps you capture the moment. Reality is Leica isn’t selling a lot of SL bodies and this is their future. They need to build out a robust lens lineup that captures the professionals and hobbies to alike. These lenses are the start of that. It doesn’t matter if the optical formula is similar to Panasonic. If you look back in time, many lenses were similar to Zeiss Planar and Sonnar designs, but it was the type of glass, the way they were cut etc that differentiated the lenses performance.

I actually tried both today at the leica store in my area on the SL2-S. They are made in Portugal so not sure if they are a rebadged Panasonic lens, but they could be upgraded versions of those lenses First Impressions: They are very light. Feel really good on the SL System. build quality isn’t exactly the same as the APO versions but feel better than a Panasonic lens. Though compared to the Sigma I series 65f2 etc I would prob say the Sigma feels more robust. performance wise the AF is quick and responsive. No issues acquiring focus even using face detection. for video it locks on quick, but since there is no phase detect on the SL2-S, it lags compared to other PD AF systems. image quality is good! Was surprised at the level of detail, pleasant bokeh and minimal CA. I did notice slight green fringing at times but nothing near to what the 35 Lux gives. It’s definitely better controlled here. From what I understand Leica is going to push these lenses as a kit with the SL cameras so not sure if they will be available soon to purchase separately. This is a good move by Leica and hopefully they do more like this. Not everyone can afford or even need APO lenses.

Vintage 50 Dilemma: 50 Rigid V2 vs 50 Lux V1 amber coating
Succisa75 replied to Succisa75's topic in Leica M Lenses
Thanks Aryel After looking at some sample images and reading the opinion of others, I passed on the Lux for now. The rigid I have is in really good condition and the glass is extremely clean which is rare. On top of that the rendering wasn’t that big of a difference for me to warrant the purchase at this time. Thanks to everyone for their recommendations and advice, much appreciated -
Vintage 50 Dilemma: 50 Rigid V2 vs 50 Lux V1 amber coating
Succisa75 replied to Succisa75's topic in Leica M Lenses
Thanks everyone for your help. had a chance to see the lens and test it today. The rendering is more like a painting. It’s sharp enough for most usage at f1.4 vs the ASPH that is significantly sharper but the V1 has a bokeh that is really special. How it takes the light and creates a beautiful image from it is really something. The Rigid is also great and very versatile but this Lux has me thinking. I would love to own both, but financially right now that could pose a challenge so will need to see. decisions decisions -
Vintage 50 Dilemma: 50 Rigid V2 vs 50 Lux V1 amber coating

Thank you for this! Really appreciate the insight. you do put valid points to both which is something I need to consider. I’ll have a chance to try the V1 soon to see how it performs and if it works for me. the rigid is a fantastic performing lens and it rivals even new lenses in terms of sharpness, quite impressive for its age. It’s a lens I enjoy quite a bit but that Lux desire sometimes creeps in Thanks once again -
Vintage 50 Dilemma: 50 Rigid V2 vs 50 Lux V1 amber coating

Yes I’ve heard this, but some lenses that have “inferior” optical designs also render quite beautifully. -
Hi everyone, A bit of backstory: I've owned a 50 rigid v2 for a couple years now. Fantastic lens and the glass is very clean. I’ve really enjoyed this lens but at times the 1 meter close focusing distance has been an issue I’ve been itching for a Lux for sometime as I primarily shoot film with my 50 Rigid, and the extra stop to aid in lower light situations might come in handy at times, plus I’ve always enjoyed how a 50 Lux render subjects. I came across a mint 50 Lux v1 amber coating with hood. I’ve never tried an V1 and while the close focusing distance is 1 meter as well, wanted to get some feedback if I should let go of the rigid for the Lux etc. Thanks I’m advance!

Thanks everyone for the replies. I decided to go for the Elmarit. Just made sense for the size, performance and based on your replies. Thanks and much appreciated! -

Succisa75 replied to Succisa75's topic in Leica M Lenses
Yes this was my main concern was that extra stop of light. Most of the time I shoot in a variety of lighting conditions but the size of the elmarit is really nice -
Hi everyone, in a bit of a dilemma. Looking for a 28mm for film on my M7 or M6. I have the option of either going with a 28 Con v1 or the latest 28 Elmarit. I’ve read many of the posts here in the forum already, but most are geared towards digital Leica cameras vs film. What would film shooters recommend? Would the extra stop of light make a big difference with the cron vs the Elmarit? Aesthetics wise the Elmarit looks better especially with the metal hood vs the massive plastic hood of the 28 Cron but looks aren’t everything Thanks in advance.

Just picked up an R9 and wanted to ask about extra parts
Succisa75 replied to Succisa75's topic in Leica R System
Yes mine does a bit as well, only when there is film. Doesn’t bother me much either. -
