  1. Dear all.. Wondering what some opinions are on my thinking of migrating from my Leica Q-P (didn't love the 28mm focal length), which I just sold, to either the M10 or the SL2-S. Horses for courses, I know. I also have the M9 in good working order; no sensor issues; it produces decent work. I have the 50mm f2 Summicron-M 1979-today version. And also the 90mm f2.5 Summarit-M lenses. Logically, getting an SL2-S leaves me with an M and L camera. Can use the M lenses with the SLS-2 and adapter. The thinking behind the SL2-S is big viewfinder, decent low light performance, the zoom-to-focus feature, and a decent sensor. Added advantage of adding an AF lens too, some decent low-cost non-Leica options. OR get an M10, which gives me 2x M cameras—use the lenses on both. Access the newer M10 sensor. Stay in the rangefinder focus world. Wild card: sell the M9 too, get into the M11. I'd be interested to hear thoughts on this type of transition. My work is street, urban. Thanks!
  2. Anyone know of the best value route to purchasing a replacement screen for Leica Q. Mine has a couple vertical pixel lines on far right. Camera perfectly usable but would like to replace the screen. Leica quotes around $400 thanks
  3. Thanks, if only! I've since discovered that repair to the LCD should not be significant if that is all that is wrong. Few hundred bucks. I will go talk to Leica service center. Good thing is this fault does not detract at all from the otherwise excellent results from the camera!
  4. When I picked up my Leica Q-P a few months ago it had a single vertical line of dead pixel off to the right of the screen. Now there are three faint lines instead of one. Attached pictures. Anyone seen this issue and if so is there a Leica remark on it?
  5. Can I revive this thread? Late to the party. I have an M9 I’ve been using for about 5 years that I very much love. With a 50mm Summicron v4(?) non ASPH. I also have a 90mm Summarit 90mm f2.5 that I really enjoy and quality sharpness are excellent. My conundrum is I have a Q that I’ve had a few months. I’m not super comfortable with the 28mm. Having said that I have a Ricoh GRIII and like using the 28mm on that - it’s 28mm equivalent. The Ricoh lens is fantastic for such a compact camera. APSC 24MP. I prefer the style of shooting the Ricoh for 28mm as you’re better off close to the subject therefore it is easier to wield candidly. I am mostly a street shooter but also environmental/urban/abstract photographer. So the plan is sell the Q - it’s a QP, the matt design is wonderful, has a better on/off switch. And to buy an M10 and use my Summicron M 50mm f2.0 + Summarit 90mm f2.5 interchangeably with my M9 - different look and feel in output CCD vs CMOS. Potential for EVF shooting with an external. Same shooting style (rangefinder) OR CL with either the kit zoom or a 28 mm M lens. I’d thereafter enjoy using a variety of other lenses over time tbd. The CL would give me compact, interchangeable, AF, manual with the M lenses, similar IQ to the M10 though of course not quite as good.
  6. An interesting analogy to run would be vintage watches. Most of which could be repaired indefinitely. Probably because of course they are mechanical. As for M9 which I’ve had around 6 years, I hope it can run and run. Be repaired with spares. Even rejigged with a bit of soldering if ever needed. Hard core electronics would be harder to fix. Buying my M9 incidentally totally cured any gear acquisition syndrome - prior to buying the M9 I steadily moved through various other cameras - Canon, Fuji etc. I was more often than not looking at new gear. After I got the M9 and Summicron 50mm f2 I didn’t think about another camera for many years - until very recently I suddenly got the itch when I saw great prices for used Leica Q gen 1. I bought a Q-P around 3-4 years old. $2500 mint. Bang goes all that cash saved from not buying a camera for 6 years! But at least it was proven to me that endless upgrading could stop right there with the M9 no other camera needed. How’s that for curing rampant consumerism?! And it still holds its own very easily all these years after launch despite older electronics.
