Advertisement Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Hi hans_za, Take a look here What half case do you use?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lars_bergquist Posted October 19, 2009 Share #22 Posted October 19, 2009 I have two Luigi Crescenzi cases for my M8 (and my M9 too, shortly). One is a half-case without the grip, as my gloves are 8 1/2 only. It means that I can carry the camera without worrying about shirt buttons or zippers damaging my monitor cover. And it is very nicely made too, thank you. The other is a 'bespoke' full case in Aged Brown. It has the front flap permanently attached. This is fully practical. Even when taking a vertical picture, the 'surplus' fingers of my left hand do automatically keep the flap out of the way. Of course I grew up when all cameras had eveready cases and even Robert Capa used them and learned how. It should be added that the front flap is fairly short as it does not have to cover the rear too. There is a separate hanging rear flap. All this works like a charm and I use the case when going out with just the camera and one mounted lens (which is often) and there is a risk of rain, hail, sleet or snow (which is also often, hereabouts). Leicawit Posted October 19, 2009 Share #23 Posted October 19, 2009 I have had an Artisan&Artist* half-case for about six months now and I dig it. I found myself at Photo Village and was impressed with their case (and their adjustable strap). It feels great under the fingers and makes the camera a little less conspicuous. When I know I'm gonna be shooting multiple rolls, I take it off but for the most part it stays on and looks (and smells) good. I can't say enough good things about their adjustable strap. Good stuff. Islandmike Posted December 10, 2009 Share #25 Posted December 10, 2009 If it's of any interest to further readers of this thread, my half case has just arrived from Mr. Zhou (ebay). From Shanghai to the UK in 9 days and cost 60 US dollars with free postage. I have to watch my pennies and after what I've spent on Leica gear over the last month or so, I simply couldn't face (justify) the price of the European product and I won't get upset if this one gets a bit tatty - in fact, it may give it a little extra character. The quality seems super - nice leather, nice fit and good clean stitching. My wife liked it too and she usually makes no comment whatsoever on photo kit. At this stage, highly recommended. jklotz Posted December 10, 2009 Share #26 Posted December 10, 2009 I've been considering a Luigi (I mean - how can you not buy something from a guy named Luigi - an offer you can't refuse!). Can you tell me what is necessary to get to the bottom plate to change cards or batteries? Do you have to unscrew the screw? That sounds like a real pain. pharyngula Posted December 11, 2009 Share #28 Posted December 11, 2009 I use a Luigi half case (black) with Leica strap and Leica neoprene case for those times when I'm in wet weather and/or traveling and want to carry the camera in my back-pack until I get where I'm going. My Luigi case has the cutout for my Thumbs-Up and lacks a snap-on back cover. I have an 8.2 and so I'm a lot less worried about scratches than I might with the M8 or 9. The "grip" with case and Thumbs Up is a great combination. My only regret is that I wish I had gotten the tripod screw.

Luigi makes the best quality case hands down but just got a nice used Artisan&Artist. I love it. Very open for thumbs up and eyecup. Comes off in a flash. I still however can't part with my Luigi red stitched black grip case. Work of art.
cidereye Posted December 12, 2009 Share #30 Posted December 12, 2009 I use a Luigi half case (black) with Leica strap and Leica neoprene case for those times when I'm in wet weather and/or traveling and want to carry the camera in my back-pack until I get where I'm going. Yes I must get hold of a Leica neoprene case for my M8, I don't normally use camera cases or camera bags when I'm out shooting but I've used the similar neoprene RF cases that Op/Tech make for my Contax G's when I store them in my canvas messenger bag. Really great protection from scratches/damage I find so I should imagine the Leica version to be of similar or better construction.

brill64 Posted December 14, 2009 Share #32 Posted December 14, 2009 has anyone found the optional stainless screw for Luigi case useful? my ss screw jammed onto my mini-tripod in cold weather when i was traveling and i had to do without the half-case for the remainder of the trip. you try handling an m8 with nocti in woolly gloves and -8C. the trick is not to screw the tripod into the screw more tightly than the ss/screw is screwed into the bottom of the camera or it may jam! however, saying that the screw does very firmly hold the camera flat and level in the case and is beautifully made. after i got home i used a monkey wrench to get them unlocked and made a bit of a mess of things but it's still usable.. fotografr Posted December 14, 2009 Share #35 Posted December 14, 2009 Camera Cases are for wimps and pussies (or as they say here in the states wusses) or style junkies (My case is better then yours. It's the same with bags). Now wait for all the replies. Actually, guns are for wimps and pussies.
falkk Posted December 15, 2009 Share #36 Posted December 15, 2009 I've been considering a Luigi (I mean - how can you not buy something from a guy named Luigi - an offer you can't refuse!). Can you tell me what is necessary to get to the bottom plate to change cards or batteries? Do you have to unscrew the screw? That sounds like a real pain. I love my luigi-case... and i do not mind to unscrew the bottom screw. i found it very natural to have the whole case fixed with a screw. when i ordered the luigi-case, i was digging deep: i got the whole set, case, nose, straps and a cute little battery-card-case. i thought, if i do the investment, the few extra euro would not hurt. so, in the small leather battery-case, i carry around a coin. here in china, for some reasons, i am not using coins very much... so i got used to carry an extra spare one. i do not mind the screwing-unscrewing at all. mborkowski14 Posted December 16, 2009 Share #37 Posted December 16, 2009 +1 My M8.2 in black paint with the Luigi half-case in the "Rally" finish looks like it came straight out of 1954 . I rarely get a second, or even first glance from people when using it. Meanwhile, my friends 5D Mk. II gets all the attention... i am using the luigi-case set:halfcase with sliding long nose cover, and the screw for tri-pod. even, i have not used a tripod yet, i like the screw. it just feels natural, to fix the case with a screw. i love the leather (ralley), the looks and the feeling. it adds to the weight, but i guess that's ok. and one of the readers said it right: it does not attract a second view. my m8 looks just like an old camera, compared to all the high-tech gear around. people just look at it and forget it. except a few nice "nerds" who know what they see... from these people, i get some attention. luigi is reliable and his products are just brilliant. passion for details. even the box, in which the case was delivered was nicly made. and he added a hand-written yellow-sticker, to tell me, how to use the screw together with a tripod. luigi-case: highly recommended. Tom Johnston Posted December 16, 2009 Share #38 Posted December 16, 2009 any comments on the "black bag" 1/2 case available from photovillage? i use a luigi on my m-film camera, with the extra room for a t.a. rapidwinder, and like it very much. i had another on my rd1 but preferred to use the camera without the case. i think a convertible rear flap is a good idea for the original m8. my working method is to avoid chimping by turning the instant review off while shooting, thus i don't need access to the monitor immediately. Guest mc_k Posted December 17, 2009 Share #39 Posted December 17, 2009 shouldn't need a coin to use the stainless screw, just some friction with your thumb
