Beware - Leica can read your minds!

I just got my black M7 back from Solms (faulty ISO reader) and was surprised to see that the original red dot has turned black!

Actually I had thought about that to conceal the brand a bit more but totally forgot to ask CS - and they just read my mind!

Damn - missed opportunity! I should have thought more about exchanging my M7 for an M9! ;)

I thought they weren't allowed to use the black dot anymore? (I have it on my M8.2 and I like it, but obviously it isn't available for the M9 and the story behind it seems to be that - Leica Camera AG not being the owner of the brand Leica - they can only use the red dot.)

How did you get that?

Leica M three quarters of the way down the page, DAGM100. I bought mine some years ago when they were much cheaper.

DIY Leica FAQ - Are Leica red dots replaceable? and Replace the Red M6 Logo with a Black One or just do a Google search for Leica Black Dot.

... and what's the mistery around the 6-digit s/n of the lens ?:D

LOL! You know some people like to get hold of genuine serial numbers and then claim the item was stolen. I purchased the lens second hand. In my case they've got a 1 in 10 chance.

Talk about being, I though I was, paranoid.

No matter where you bought it, used or new, you should have some record of the sale/purchase. As long as I have that I really don't care what someone else may say or try to do.

If you had said you wanted the Black dot they might have slapped you with an extra fee. You lucked out. After your camera left Solms the tech realized the Black Dot was meant for another camera... :-)

I'm happy for you.

PS Why don't the Chinese sell the black dots on E-bay for 75 cents?

Ah, we have an explanation at last! The M9 production delays are being caused by the inavailability of the Red dot.

They still have surplus of black dots that were intended for the now obsolete M8.2 and they decided to use one of those (hoping you would not notice/care).

I am not sure Leica can even read thier own minds. With such a limited range of products nowadays I foresee a time in the not too distant future when they will revert back to being just an optics company but the black dot is good. A bit different and it maybe adds a little uniqueness to you camera body
