carbonadam Posted October 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted October 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does the M9 have a standard Mini USB connector and cable like the M8? I read a reprot here, with a picture, that it does not: LEICA M9 Scroll down to "Communication" So what is the deal?

For future reference, I strongly recommend you use the Leica website for definitive answers to questions such as this.

earleygallery Posted October 9, 2009 Share #5 Posted October 9, 2009 Does anyone use it? Has anyone used it on their M8? A flash PC socket would surely be more useful!
aesop Posted October 9, 2009 Share #6 Posted October 9, 2009 And why do you make this suggestion? It is forbidden to ask these questions? ...that was my polite way of pointing out (without mentioning names) that some websites are arguably less informative or accurate than others. It is always best to go to the source. Sorry if my messaging came across wrong, diogenis, but I meant no offence. Hence the smiley. You, on the other hand, come across as unduly aggressive. Any particular reason?
marknorton Posted October 9, 2009 Share #7 Posted October 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone use it? Has anyone used it on their M8? The biggest user of this seems to be Leica themselves for setting up the camera. I have tried to hack into, believe me. For real world use, it's irrelevant, not least because of the battery drain while the connection is active.
gravastar Posted October 9, 2009 Share #8 Posted October 9, 2009 Does the M9 have a standard Mini USB connector and cable like the M8? I read a reprot here, with a picture, that it does not: LEICA M9 Scroll down to "Communication" So what is the deal? It woul be useful if Mr. Rockwell did a little more research. The M8 and M9 use the Mini-B connector. The photo's (M9 and 5DII) on Rockwell's page show different mechanical incarnations of the same standard. The sockets may look different but they are mechanically and electrically interchangeable. A cable with a Mini-B plug will fit both of those sockets. ETA: The electrical contacts in both sockets are a set of wiping contact blades along the left hand side of the central pillar, not where the 5 holes (M8) or slots (5DII) are. Bob. Any particular reason? Your "Polite" way of "pointing" usually makes people hesitant to ask questions more freely. Some do that on purpose (I'm not saying you did it on purpose, but on the other hand you might have as well). Anyway this forum is exactly the place to ask these questions, and mods can handle the traffic so to speak.
diogenis Posted October 9, 2009 Share #10 Posted October 9, 2009 Does anyone use it? Has anyone used it on their M8? A flash PC socket would surely be more useful! I would very much love to have used it, but something is wrong with the protocol they use with M8 and its real slow with a Mac. If it worked as intended I would have used it. They claimed that it is solved in m9...

Only the first day I shot my M8... I hadn't yet a card reader and wanted to see my very first M8 pic... carbonadam Posted October 18, 2009 Author Share #12 Posted October 18, 2009 Some of the people on here and their responses are so arrogant that it boggles my mind. Do you people talk to your friends and family like this? [beeeep] I used the USB cable all the time to upload my M8 pictures to my laptop at my kitchen table. I hate taking off the bottom cover except to quickly swap out batteries. I have one very short USB cable that sits on the kitchen table and takes up no space at all. A card reader would waste my time and the few times I did use one, the M8 seemed to wig out and froze. [beeeep]
