Off to Munich on business this week (or some small town out near Austria), so I will have to see what has been arranged for the evening entertainment, beer wise. Not sure if they know how to do it properly down there... ;)

I have already made a pledge to Ron about choice of camera.

A small town out near austria ..... ahhhh ! this might be Rotterdam ... No ?

(Not implying stupidity or ignorance here !)

It was a town called Arnstorf, which is out past the BMW factory, when driving from Munich Airport.

Very friendly people they were too. The weiss bier was also very good, I have to say.

:)

Hey guys,

Do we have any idea yet of where we are likely to meet for the challenge? I'm looking to book flights/hotel so it would be useful if I'm based on the right side of town at least. I guess that it will be relatively central?

As for film/digital my guess is that film will be in the minority again - me and who else? I expect to see a few M8's.....

Let me remind you at my offer for an After-Challenge-Tour, which I posted on the 11th of march. Up to now I got only very little feedback.

If it is a question of the programme I am open for any suggestion.

If it is a question of time you should consider that the planned programme can´t be done in less time. There should be enough time for individual photographing. That seems to me far more appropriate for "us" than only a sightseeing roundtrip. If it should be shorter I would have to strip the programme - which is possible of course.

Some asked if it must be that expensive. Definitely not. It depends on the comfort you expect. But I think the quality of the impressions we are going to get should be equaled by the quality of the accomodation and meals plus the opportunity for a meeting in nice atmosphere in the evening. This would be hard to find in a hotel garni with breakfast room... Nevertheless I can have a look for some good middleclass houses, a cheaper coach etc. But I will not do this without some more feedback or, even better, some reservations.

Best regards

Friedhelm

Excerpts of what I wrote in March:

If there will be enough interest, I am going to organize a trip right after the Leica "One" Challenge through the former GDR, leading to Solms and Wetzlar on Friday. Travelling back home can start from Frankfurt or, together with a trip by train, from Berlin at saturday.

These would be the places for stop overs:

Sunday: Berlin / Potsdam

Monday: Wittenberg (Martin Luther), Wörlitz (UNESCO World Heritage landscape park), Dessau (Bauhaus)

Tuesday: Wolfen (former Agfa / ORWO), Leipzig, Freyburg ("Rotkäppchen"- tradit. sparkling wine factory)

Wendsday: Jena (Carl Zeiss, Jenoptik, Planetarium, Optic museum), Weimar (Goethe & Co), Gotha (Origin of the Royal British Family: Prince Albert grew up here. The Royals changed their name from "Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha" during WW I in "Windsor".

In the evening Films and storage cards will be collected to be developed / printed at request in Eisenach at the CeWe laboratory over night.

Tuesday: Eisenach (UNESCO World Heritage "Wartburg", Exhibition "800 years St. Elizabeth", Automobile Museum in the first BMW production plant)

Friday: LEICA Solms, Wetzlar

If someone can book us into this place, mentioned above, I think we've got a venue.

Need numbers though...

Friedhelm, your proposed post-challenge tour of the former DGR etc looks splendid. But I personally would not be able to take part. The Challenge would be a quick dash to Berlin for the weekend (plus a day, maybe, visit some friends there) but work etc will prevent a longer trip. All the best, John

Friedhelm, it was very kind of you to suggest the trip, but as Andy says most visitors are only going to Berlin for the weekend. This in itself is an improvement on the original 'challenge' in London where as far as I remember everyone just appeared for the afternoon and then disappeared home in the early evening.

Thanks again.

I anticipate that the 2014 One Challenge will take the form of a three-month world tour with stopovers in the home countries of each of the 98 participants.

Still only one camera, one lens, 36 exposures though...:D

Bill

Bill,

nobody was going to alter the One Challenge.

I would have appreciated your comment earlier. Now your kind of humor is coming a little bit late.

Lighten up, Friedhelm!

Yours was a kind offer. I wasn't making fun of it, or you. I was referring to the fact that the One Challenge grows year on year - something of which I am personally proud.

Regards,

Bill

Likewise whilst the tour was a nice idea, personally I don't have the spare time or money to take part. My holiday time is very precious to me and I'm probably going to give up one or two days of it for the Berlin trip as it is.

The fact that the One Challenge has become an international event is in itself a great acheivement for the forum. London, Amsterdam, Paris now Berlin.

Someone was going to speak to their contacts re. hotels in Berlin? That would be of interest to me.

Friedhelm, don't take it personally - maybe another trip over a long weekend, away from the One Challenge would attract more interest?

from the participants in the german forum one often gets the impression, that 99 % of all leica-photographers have retired and plenty of time and mony to sepend... (personally I would like more of both).

best regards

  • 2 months later...

I don't know if I have answered or not. Been way too busy these past months. Not even time to use my repaired D2 much...

Yes, I would love to be join you guys in Berlin. But I'm afraid that I will not have the time and money to do the trip (if ever there's one). I imagine I should reserve my flight now?

Best,

Hsin

Would like to see you there!

Yep, Hsin, you should try to reserve a flight as soon as you can so as to get the cheapest deal. I presume you can use a low-cost airline from Paris - Berlin?

e.g. Air Berlin are showing a 32 Euro fare out on 12th Oct and an 89 Euro return on 14th, if you are staying 2 nights.
