earleygallery Posted February 23, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 23, 2007 Yes, can't wait. I've not been to Berlin but it has always appealed for a visit. Might make a long weekend of it. But, the important question of course, which camera/lens to use......(and film, I'll probably shoot with film).
stunsworth Posted February 23, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 23, 2007 I'm looking forward to it too. I love cities, and everythng I've heard about Berlin from friends who've already been makes me think It'll be a great venue. Plus I like good lager and sausages :-)

dhsimmonds Posted March 10, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 10, 2007 I have just realised that we will be in Australia that week-end which is a nuisance. But I shall enjoy seeing all of your images when we get back!

Guest lll Posted March 10, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 10, 2007 If there will be enough interest, I am going to organize a trip right after the Leica "One" Challenge through the former GDR, leading to Solms and Wetzlar on Friday. Travelling back home can start from Frankfurt or, together with a trip by train, from Berlin at saturday. These would be the places for stop overs: Sunday: Berlin / Potsdam Monday: Wittenberg (Martin Luther), Wörlitz (UNESCO World Heritage landscape park), Dessau (Bauhaus) Tuesday: Wolfen (former Agfa / ORWO), Leipzig, Freyburg ("Rotkäppchen"- tradit. sparkling wine factory) Wendsday: Jena (Carl Zeiss, Jenoptik, Planetarium, Optic museum), Weimar (Goethe & Co), Gotha (Origin of the Royal British Family: Prince Albert grew up here. The Royals changed their name from "Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha" during WW I in "Windsor". In the evening Films and storage cards will be collected to be developed / printed at request in Eisenach at the CeWe laboratory over night. Tuesday: Eisenach (UNESCO World Heritage "Wartburg", Exhibition "800 years St. Elizabeth", Automobile Museum in the first BMW production plant) Friday: LEICA Solms, Wetzlar Please take this as a first, rough suggestion. I am free for further ideas. I have asked Olly from the Leica Academy for support. Up to now, the trip will take place with at least 12 persons, then the roughly calculated price will be around 1700E per person Would be nice to get your feed back in this thread or as PN. Best regards Friedhelm As a TV journalist I worked in most parts of this area for years. I am shure we will get some doors opend which a normal tourist won´t. Look in the archive for the Eisenach and Gotha Meetings I organised last year in January and August.
Rona!d Posted March 11, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 11, 2007 Anybody of the classic car-maniacs join the ONE? If you are interested in a small visit of this, let me know: http://www.meilenwerk.de/meilenwerk_berlin_gebaeude.htm Ron
andybarton Posted March 11, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted March 11, 2007 Looks like an interesting place, Ron, but like many of us I suspect, I would not have the time to do anything other than the Challenge. Can't see Mrs B going round an old warehouse full of old cars either, which is a consideration
Rona!d Posted March 11, 2007 Share #11 Posted March 11, 2007 Andy, just an idea. I will go there anyway when I´m in Berlin.
andybarton Posted March 11, 2007 Author Share #12 Posted March 11, 2007 No, don't get me wrong, it's a good idea. I know that you have Treffen over there, something that we will have to organise over here too.
Rona!d Posted March 11, 2007 Share #13 Posted March 11, 2007 Friedhelm, what a wonderful idea with such a rich program. I can highly recommend your organization-skills, you always suggest such amazing locations to visit. This trip is nearly a "must" for Germany visitors. Unfortunately i have not the time and money to join the whole trip but would maybe come to Eisenach for some hours (if this would be possible and you are not "overbooked"). Good luck! Ronald p.s. As a TV man and local, Friedhelm is really a "door opener", he knows all the gate-keepers of the finest locations, a "standard" tourist would never find access to! spylaw4 Posted March 29, 2007 Share #14 Posted March 29, 2007 What is everyone's view on hotel cost? And location? Are we all aiming for the same hotel? The top Trip Advisor (my bible in such matters) is the Swisshotel on Ku'damm - av price/room Euro 136 (£97). Alternatively there's Ku'damm 101 at Euro 138, or a Novotel Berlin mitte @ Euro 109. Local opinions are needed bearing in mind that tastes differ - even for a 2 night break.
andybarton Posted March 29, 2007 Author Share #15 Posted March 29, 2007 We have decided to take whatever lastminute.com throws our way come September, but the Mitte does look like a good location.
spylaw4 Posted March 29, 2007 Share #16 Posted March 29, 2007 Fair enough - but as someone who likes to plan well in advance (my Xmas/New Year 2007/8 break is already booked) ....! And I'm now looking at planning all the 2008 holidays.
stunsworth Posted March 29, 2007 Share #17 Posted March 29, 2007 Is there any consensus yet as to where we'll be meeting during the day, or the evening? A rough idea would be enough, no need for an exact location.
Guest user8952 Posted March 30, 2007 Share #18 Posted March 30, 2007 I would recommend: Hotel Berlin Kastanienhof (prenzlauer berg/mitte) small, decent hotel, right in the middle of the "new" berlin. but tastes may differ...
Guest user8952 Posted March 31, 2007 Share #19 Posted March 31, 2007 and if anyone wants to stay in berlin for a longer period of time, take a look at our guest-apartment: raum18 best regards f
Guest lll Posted March 31, 2007 Share #20 Posted March 31, 2007 fux, consider that we do not only need an accomodation but a meeting place or conference room too. regards Friedhelm
