DMR cards

Just having a curious problem with my SD cards on my DMR. I'm in Vancouver on holiday and I'm using my R9/DMR (just back from Solms with R9 metering repair and DMR checked over/cleaned).

I'm using a mix of Sandisk Ultra II and Transcend 150x 2GB cards (like I have for the last 3-4 years). Until now everything has performed fine (DMRs and the cards). Now all of a sudden, I've got a card writing/file issue. After shooting more than say 30 images, I can view the images on the LCD screen; however the counter on the back of the DMR might say that there are 70 spaces left out of 99, even though I've shot 39 images. If I turn the DMR off or it goes to sleep, I only have 29 instead of 39 images on the card!!! This has happened to 3 cards now on 3 separate days. I can't see the other missing images on a computer when I exmaine the cards!

Any ideas?

Thanks

Charlie

This may be off the point as I have never experienced the counter issue myself but make sure to install the latest firmware v1.3 which I recall addressed card compatibility problems. I consider resetting the camera is mandatory after firmware upgrades. I am sure you know that DMR does not accept SDHC cards. I am using Transcend x133 4GB SD cards which are rather rare to find these days but they allow me to shoot 198 cuts in RAW format on each card.

Charlie, I use the 4GB Transcend card as well. First & foremost, the cards MUST be formatted only in the DMR. Interestingly, I get either 201 or 202 RAW files. The Transcend cards are easily available here in the US. If you have a problem getting them, I might be able to help. They are now also cheap. One issue I have is that if you start shooting and say take 50 frames, if you view the frames with play & than shut the camera down, you can't view them again, but you can take more images & in the end, the shot count is correct & all the RAW files are there. I did a real stupid thing last year & left 2 Transcend cards in my jeans. After my wife washed them & ean them through the dryer, they still operate perfectly. I have 10 cards & like to rotate them so they all get used. I always take test frames every time I reformat, which is the first thing I do when I turn on the DMR. Hope this helps. All the best. Ben BTW, the cards are $38 US at compuplus.com

I'm not sure what's going on. However, I would not format those cards that you've used, because you may be able to recover the files that you cannot see now. For now, I would just buy more 2GB cards as needed, format them in DMR before you use them, until you get back home and figure things out. Make sure you have a fresh battery installed.

If you are following the best practice of always formating your card first and using a fully charged battery........make sure the contacts on the DMR are clean ....an eraser works. I have also had to clean the contacts on the sd card.

Every problem I have had with the DMR has been electrical and due to a weak battery or bad contacts. The batteries are only good for a few years ...I have bought new ones twice and try to condition them periodically with a full discharge. Some have complained about dead chargers as well.

Incomplete writes to the card is the result of a weak connection or battery.

I have be able to recover most of my lost files ....when the DMR corrupts a card.

Also had problems when using the same cards in both the DMR and the M8 even with formating in the appropriate camera.

Gents,

Thanks. Not a battery problem, as I have 3 batteries with me (and another 5 at home!). Probably a card issue. I reformatted a card (without pics on it) in the DMR and that works ok. I've locked the 'duff' ones and I'll download the pics when I get home (or recover them with mediarecover).

Rob,

Thanks. I only have DMRs, no M digital. I have about 15 2GB SD Ultra cards, which have all been formatted on the DMR in the past. Fingers crossed, reformatting them again seems to be doing the trick (I've locked the cards with the 'lost' images).

Best wishes,

Charlie

Dies ist eine Info vom LEICA CS:

Leica Digital Modul R

SD-Karten

Einstellungen

DMR Autoabschaltung auf 2 min.

Autorückschau auf 1 sec. oder auf OFF

Bei längeren Pausen Kamera und DMR immer ausschalten.

Blitzen

Kamera auf Programm „A“, Einstellrad auf „X“ und das Blitzgerät auf „A“ stellen.

Firmware

SD-Karte in DMR formatieren

My English does not so feel well, as that I could translate this text.
