Dlux 4 best 52mm lens for Macro

Got my Dlux 4 so different then the ease of use from my D2 however much more too offere so I will struggle through it. Wish there was an Overgarrd dor the Dl4 .

After reading the reviews and comments I went with the Panda adater which means 52mm lens filters.Possibly I am missing something but I cant seem to get closer then 5 cm yet the barrel says 1 cm. I lke to get as close as possible a bugs eye mayby.So what will work and I want a quality lens .I know Nikon has some great Dioptor lenses do they come in 52mm and would they be a good choice ? Or do I get a step up from 52 to 58 as a best choice .Your input is welcome.

If you move the focus switch on the left hand side of the lens to AF-macro (middle position) you should be able to get VERY close (~1 cm)?

 

But maybe that wasn't the question?

You need to be at the wide angle end of the lens to achieve 1 cm. I've found that zooming in also increases the minimum focus distance.

OK, let´s say you do get to 5 cm without an add-on lens. For such a lens to make sense, its range ought to START somewhere around 5 cm with the camera set to infinity. Then the entire focussing range will get you progressively closer....

 

Only, an add-on lens that gives you 5 cm starting distance would have to be of 20 dipoters´ strength. Such a lens would be quite complicated if it were to give decent image quality.

 

However, a normal 50 mm lens for any 35 mm camera should be just 20 diopters (and very well corrected), so if you can find a way to mount it on the Panda (without the weight damaging the camera...), it just might work. Then, preferrably mount it reversed (in fact, this is an old technique for extreme close-ups).

 

Any commercially available close-up lenses would be far weaker than 20 diopters (there are 10 diopter ones, but they´re usually lousy), and wouldn´t be worthwhile in this situation; they would add almost no extra range at all.

Perhaps I should have mentioned: the DLux 4 will focus down to 1 cm without any external lenses.

Thanks for the feedback .The issue I was missing was that I needed to be in the wide angle mode. I am now able to capture extreme closeups and wont need a macro lens.

IS the LX3 wide lens worth the money considering the DL4 doesnt have a setting to let the camera know you are shooting with the wide lens as the lx3 has? I think I will start a new thread on this if I cant find it in any other posts.

Thanks for the feedback .The issue I was missing was that I needed to be in the wide angle mode. I am now able to capture extreme closeups and wont need a macro lens.
