Erwin will cause the sale of a few 1.4 magnifiers with this quote>

"The accuracy of the rangefinder of the M9 is beyond reproach, but the optional magnifier (1.4x) is absolutely necessary. "

Glad I have one coming from Dale.

What you see as moire is just from image resizing and web compression. Nothing more.

The whole tests just confirms what I thought. The d3x still remains on top even though they are using a AA Filter. 24Mp is just a little more than 18. However I think the m9 is doing quite well.

Hang on a sec ... he used a new Distagon 1.4/35 with floating element on the D3x, is that correct? ;)

Exactly the thing that I picked up on... I'm in dire need of a 1.4 35mm lens in F mount. I'd be all over that lens if ever released.

Erwins comment about the optional 1.4 magnifier as being "absolutely necessary" is interesting. After a short flirtation with a 1.35 mag. on my M9, I have returned it to the M8, where it is only useful on the longer lenses anyway. I am finding the overall operation of the M9 to be better without the magnifier. Even with the 75mm 'cron, I prefer the framelines without magnification. It may assist the 90 & 135. Haven't tried that yet.

Maybe a lower mag. could be preferred.

Absolutely necessary for him as an individual maybe, and for some that will be the case. For others not so. I tried both Leica magnifiers in a store and didn't get on with them.

Agree. For some of us the magnifier only magnifies the problem, if it is caused by the eye of the user A diopter is far more effective -for me

a 1.75 contact lens does the business for me :-)

I couldn't get on with the magnifier, and the 75 cron and the 90 seem fine to focus on the M9

I have good distance vision, and never seem to have trouble focusing the 75 on an M8. What I'd like to see is a reducing magnifier for the M9, to bring the 28 mm frame lines into clear view with wearing glasses, increasing eye relief. Sort of a poor man's a la carte viewfinder change. Is that possible?

Travelling but stopped by. I find I'm focusing the 135 apo telyt very comfortably on the M9 without feeling a need for the magnifier - the 90 cron asph also. Once I'm back home I'll try to organise some examples. I have a leica magnifier but generally find I don't use it - but I also have a correction diopter on all my M bodies (I'm long sighted) and couldn't manage without. For my money the first thing to invest in is correction if you have trouble focusing the M. Magnifiers may or may not be helpful...
