Sandisk 30mb/s SDHC cards for M9/M8 ?

At the moment the theoretically slower Ultra cards are the fastest cards on the M9. It may be that that will change with a firmware update. On the M8 you will not see any improvement with a faster card, I should think.

Since there is a list of cards and "timings" (it's a bunch of plus signs, not data) on the FAQ, perhaps Leica will be updating their research in this area when sw updates occur.

In any case, for the present sw version, there is a list of cards and relative speeds on the FAQ site.

I bought Extreme III 16GB cards expecting the firmware to adjust to real life  some time soon.

Well, it's a great perspective. Actually, I too hope for some changes in card writing speeds (tho I'm still awaiting my M9).

I really wish the buffer were bigger. I don't understand this -- I asked Leica to give me Fast, Wide, Prime's and they did that (21 and 24 'lux's).

How come they didn't give me my wish for a bigger buffer? As a shooter of action (in my case dance), I keep experiencing full buffers -- in Single Shot Mode. The dancers who are my targets keep moving and I need to keep shooting.

I am looking forward to uncompressed dng's. I read that the buffer will only hold 5 or 6 of them. I haven't torn one apart, but I would expect that the buffer is hardware dependent and not software modifiable.

I'm anxious to get the M9 and will report on all the things I find with regard to full buffer, sw lockups (flashing red light), and other bumps in the road.

I am expecting to get the extra stop of shadow detail (hooray!), more detail (2 hooray's!), and the quieter shutter (as I'm coming from an M8, it doesn't matter if the M8.2 and M9 shutters are the same).

Glad to hear that you're awaiting your M9, Bill. Any thoughts yet on a "Many Eyes" 2nd Edition:).

Steve, in fact I am contemplating such.

It seems that M8 thru M9 should be the bodies allowed. After I get a little practice with this new device I'll put such a project back on the front burner.

I take it that you are interested?

I'm most happy for Leica that they came to market with such a great product; I own it since 10-Sep and it performs flawless, exceeding each and every of my expectations.

That being said, I do find it extremely sad that Leica does not become more prescriptive about the data transfer rates the camera's hardware is capable of, so that one can buy proper SD cards when one needs them (now!) without having to fear that they might be either outperformed by future firmware updates or over-invested by having bought too fast cards that the camera is not designed to fully leverage from a hardware/bus perspective.

Sean, did you receive any feedback/hint from Leica on your enquiry regarding this matter in the other thread?

Best regards,

Michael
