I liked it coronita, thanks a lot!

what do you think about the image quality though?

the two sample pics you posted didn't look too good to me....?

I have never owned a leica before so the X1 fits my budget, I love how when you cut it on it shows the Leica logo on the display (assuming it does this from the pic)

I've actually never even touched a Leica...

thanks again!

I am just back from Hasselblad Space Event in U.S.A., sorry for not answering before. I will try to post several X1 sample images more, but right now, I am swamped in work. In any case, many things get "lost in translation", and I believe it is important to remember that I posted a sample only camera review. So quality of image (and general performance) is not final. I do like in general the quality tough, much, much better that other PS. I suppose it will be on par with the quality offered by the final E-P1 camera. By the way: the images from a sample only E-P1 were really terrible compared with the offered by the final product...

I did the review of the X1 mostly for the lens performance (not really a "cut and paste thing"... :-)), and that may improve when RAW and JPEG conversion improves too.

On the whole, I see prospects are good...

But in my opinion time line of introduction is wrong, becasuse Canon, Nikon and the new Ricoh that looms on the horizont can be on the market sooner... or at least their announcement.

And the E-P1 and GF1 cameras are strong competition.

A GF1. with the 20 mm f/1,7 is interesting, but I have not tested performace of that lens yet. Performance of Zuiko 17 mm f/2,8 pancake is much lower than that of the Elmarit for the X1, tough...

Best regards

Valentin

Valentin, apologies if I missed this, but can you shed some insight on this last part?

There is rumour... about a Nikon compact camera using the same sensor of the X1.

Ricoh, on the other hand, is interested in compact cameras with large sensors and interchangeable lenses, and it is likely some kind of announcement soon.

I don't know about Canon.

Sony says to be very interested in the "micro 4/3" phenomena. They are thinking in something aimed at the same market, but "somewhat different".

Sigma has presented the DP2 and an updated DP1s.

So, in the coming months we will see a lot of announcements of this type of cameras (small size, large sensor).

Add to the list the new NX system of Samsung.

Which they announced for autumn 2009 and then postponed until 2010. Let's talk about it when it's there - might have the same fate as the DP1.

Besides, the mock-ups they showed looked like yet another wanna-be-SLR like the Panasonic G1.

Yea, it might be like the X1 announced for autumn 2009 and probably won't appear until 2010, or like the S2 announced in fall of 2008 for summer of 2009 and might be available in winter of 2009. Delivery dates following announcements are so reliable.

When was the X1 announced for autumn 2009? AFAIR Leica always talked about January 2010 although some dealers said it might appear one or two months earlier.

Yes... there are rumours about a really interesting Ricoh concept. Not that the GRD and CR lines are not. But it seems that this Ricoh concept would have excited the very Maitani.

Best

From this it is pretty obvious that you haven't even read the article...

I was thinking the same thing as it clearly provided another perspective from that of DP Review. In fact, I'm now more comfortable with the price tag after reading this article.

Regards,

Dan
