How much longer will no more film produce on the market ?

As long as teenagers come into my work and say "OH MY GOD THAT'S LIKE FILM LIKE RETRO TOTALLY MAD HOLGA LOMO RAD. LIKE X-PRO LIKE RAD LIKE I NEED 100 IS IT ISO or ASA TO PUT IN MY FISHEYE" there will be film.

Trying to speculate seriously... it will need lot of time, I'd say round or something more than my life expectation (40 years ca.) :

1) We must wait for industry CEASES to build film cameras : 5-10 years from now ?

2) AFTER THEN there wiil be a huge number of film cameras in the world, a good part of them well usable-maintainable for a timeframe of 20 years or so : demand will lower steadly, but not abruptly.

3) AFTER THEN there will be a certain timeframe in which a minority of passionates with old cameras (obviously, many Leiciste between them) will continue to generate a certain demand which will be satisfied by specialty manufacturers at adequate prices: how long ? other 10 to 20 years.

 

And we need to wait also for technology to develop better batteries : in certain environments (Himalaya or desert) a reporter, today, cannot risk to have not a film camera with him; and, about the lifecycle of standard file formats.... and the duration of digitally recorded media....

I don't think it'll ever go away completely, but I can foresee a time where only a few emulsions are made and it's considered to be an art supply like oil paint or pastels... priced accordingly.

As long as Motion pictures are made with it, it's here for good.
