earleygallery Posted September 22, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 22, 2009 March 23rd 2012 at 14:43, the last ever roll of film will be sold, from a kiosk in Venice (it will also be out of date).

Mark Antony Posted September 22, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 22, 2009 I think by 20/2/2020 as by then we'll no longer need film or digital, we'll have 20 20 vision.

lns Posted September 22, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 22, 2009 How about sticking your head out of the hole? Kodak: Film No Compromise: The True Cost That link rocks. What a good idea. Film is a beautiful medium that makes artistic sense to a lot of us, and economic sense for many as well. -Laura
christo Posted September 23, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 23, 2009 Film will be around as long as the motion picture industry keeps making movies. Film will be around as long as still photographers keep making photographs. Wait... That sounds stupid? No... That's right!
jmdco Posted September 23, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 23, 2009 Film will be around as long as the motion picture industry keeps making movies. Film willbe around as long as still photographers keep making photographs. Wait... That sounds stupid? No... That's right! ...And as long as industry will return it at an accessible price
Sandokan Posted September 23, 2009 Share #12 Posted September 23, 2009 OMG! Have people started to actually use digital capture now? When did this fad start and will it continue? Why did I miss it? What will Leica do if digital becomes popular?
jerryharwood Posted September 23, 2009 Share #13 Posted September 23, 2009 A recent post somewhere indicated that many of Charlie Waite's customers now require a film based holiday rather than one based on digital capture; this seems to be a welcome trend. As someone who is regularly oversubscribed on his photo tours, this can only be welcome indeed.
christo Posted September 23, 2009 Share #14 Posted September 23, 2009 ...And as long as industry will return it at an accessible price How about this idea of digital vs film - I still prefer to use film and a roll of TriX can be had for 3.60. That's 1944 rolls or 69,984 images. Let alone processing and printing. That is $6998.40 invested. A new M9 is $7000.00. Let alone computer post production and backing up your work on hard-drives and DVD disks, etc... I love film and I love digital but I do less work when shooting film. Why is the price of film a concern?
wattsie Posted September 23, 2009 Share #15 Posted September 23, 2009 We're still listening to radio. I suspect film has a way to go yet. It may become niche and less accessible, but it will be there as long as there are people who want to use it.
RITskellar Posted September 24, 2009 Share #16 Posted September 24, 2009 Digital is just a fad. It'll never really catch on.

jmdco Posted September 24, 2009 Share #18 Posted September 24, 2009 ...Why is the price of film a concern? It is the universal law of the market, that of supply and demand.
kenneth Posted September 24, 2009 Share #19 Posted September 24, 2009 What is your opinion?I am 61 years of age and I confidently expect film to be available for the rest of my lifetime in fact film is having quite a resurgence with people trading in thier digital technology for the real thing and colleges re instating darkrooms as they have realised that it is impossible to teach the rudiments of photography without one

Digital technology has no soul and neither do the majority of pictures produced by that technology
