Recently I read somewhere in a Dutch Photography magazine an article about Deep. It is software to search for image files on your Mac. The cool thing is that is also indexes the colors in the images and shows you matching files based on color.

Deep - Image search for OS X

PS. I have no affiliation with this company. Just a FYI message I hope I can help other people with organizing and retrieving their vast numbers of files.

Tried it a while ago (own and use a couple of other s/w from the same company; they´re good).

IIRC, the hitch was that it only finds jpeg´s (presumably tif´s, too), but no kind of raw files, which renders it more or less useless for a raw shooter...

Here's another great tool for Mac:

SneakPeek Photo - Quick Look Plugin for Digital Photography

If been looking for ways to manage my collection of images, that's why I've come across some handy tools I want to share. This is a Quick Look Plugin for Mac which show you many fields of metadata (EXIF, IPTC). Just browse a folder with images an select an images and hit the space bar. It will show you the image and the metadata. Works also with DNG files.
