jimleicam3 Posted September 19, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am very lucky to be off to London this week for a holiday. While there I wanted to look for a Billingham bag, and also go to a Leica shop, just to drool over lenses and cameras. What shop should I be visiting? Thanks, Jim
Advertisement Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Hi jimleicam3, Take a look here Leica & Billingham bags in London. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted September 19, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 19, 2009 The new Leica owned shop has the widest range to look at and try but the prices are full RRP (e.g. 35/F2 ASPH is now an eye watering £1900 or so). It's in Bruton Place (just off Berkeley Square). It's a surprisingly pleasant shop without any of the attitude I was expecting. Other London dealers include Richard Caplan (not far from Leica shop), RG Lewis (personal favourite) and Red Dot. Details of all are easy to obtain via Google. Gawain Hewitt Posted September 19, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2009 I second above recommendations. Aperture also worth dropping into for second hand kit and coffee.
pmun Posted September 19, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 19, 2009 The Classic Camera near the British Museum is worth a look - good selection of Billinghams. In fact it's also near Aperture and RG Lewis as well as Jacobs (excellent range of bags). That's a good area to explore anyway. Have a good holiday. But perhaps search for them on here for other threads as they have acquired a certain "reputation". That's all I want to say as last time they cropped up a poster was reminded of slander and or libel laws.
viramati Posted September 20, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 20, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have had no problem with Classic, but I haven't bought Leica from them, and they are good because they stock zeiss and voigtlander lenses. personally I bought my Billingham from Jessops as they had the best price but not much of a range
chris_livsey Posted September 20, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 20, 2009 In didn't say that CCamera didn't have a number, which may be a large one, of satisfied customers who have had no problems with them. Merely that, for balance, I knew of other posters to this forum who would not agree.
viramati Posted September 20, 2009 Share #9 Posted September 20, 2009 just remembered that I did in fact by something leica from them a Dlux 4. I remember asking about the extended warranty and being told that it was all in order. afraid at the time I didn't realise that they weren't leica dealers and have only just thought of this. will contact them next week. dpattinson Posted September 20, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 20, 2009 For second-hand gear in London I would suggest either Aperture or Red Dot for good service and prices. Red Dot also has a pretty good range of Billingham bags if I recall correctly, especially the smaller sizes that may suit M cameras better.
Nick De Marco Posted September 20, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 20, 2009 I bought my Billingham bag from Classic camera and they gave me a good price. It's certainly worth popping into if you are in central London as you can occassioanly see some nice old lenses there. Also do visit Aperture - my favourite place for camera stuff, and just around the corner
Guest EarlBurrellPhoto Posted September 20, 2009 Share #12 Posted September 20, 2009 I was over in London last year and the prices were higher, even figuring the VAT refund, than buying them from mail order to Canada from the states. Maybe I didn't know where the discount retailers were. The shops in town all wanted full MSRP.
