Summaron 35/2.8 vs. Summicron (pre-asph)

I have a Summaron 35mm f2.8 in good condition, no haze etc. A very compact lens, too. I recently tested it on my M8 against a Summicron 35mm Pre-asph (70's or 80's vintage), and I really didn't see a difference between the pictures either at f 2.8 or smaller apertures (sorry, don't have those pictures anymor so I can't show theme). At f2 the Summicron was perhaps a little bit softer than the Summaron at f2.8.

On the M8, with it's crop factor, the Summaron seems to be a good alternative to the pre-asph Summicron, if you don't need that extra stop (f2.8 vs. f2). Am I right?

Any comments on the Summaron 35/2.8?
