I am absolutely sure that - a considerable number - of M8s have had this 'Red Line Problem'. Absolutely 'all' M8s of the Leica community here in Norway, - that I know of, have been to Solms for the Red Line Problem. Something wrong with one shipment? No. These M8s owned by Norwegians were bought from different sources ranging from B & H, New York, Cathay Photo, Singapore, Hong Kong, Farnes Norway etc. - Also: The Red Line Problem has been reported from - a large number - of participants here at L-Camera Forum. You will find a several discussions on this issue here.

I had a 'red line' problem that was sticky after I used 30 sec shots, with a Visoflex and closed down aperture, and high ISO. It scared me, it appeared after a few shots. Also when I janked the ISO down. Then later luckily it disappeared after a short time again. So now I never go above 1250 asa and never do long exposures.

It appears in ALL DIGITAL CAMERAs (search for 'hot pixels'). If I understand, it has something to do with the power supply of a row.

Thanks, everyone. I'll be sure to check all these points.

John (Wolf) ,

Agree with John and Vira..

Very nice pictures specially asian photos in b&w !

For the question of "what to test..."

take a blue sky and look at the spots on the picture by enlarging it !

Mm.. what you may see is dust on the sensor, and its presence there has nothing to do with the quality of the camera. Only a sensor-cleaning is required here, and there is no reason to refuse the camera.

Make sure that the sensor has not been scratched (or its overlying cover I should say) as a result of someone trying to remove dust too hard as this might be expensive to rectify. Fortunately its fairly unlikely but would be a problem as would the sign of any marks on the shutter.

Alberti,

If you still have warranty left on the camera, have it sent to Solms for fixing! I would never buy a M8 'that has not been to Solms for the Red-Line-Fixing'. when fixed, the red Line does not return, experience show.
