DWatts Posted September 18, 2009 Share #22 Posted September 18, 2009 Hullo RKNewcomb. Just to put your mind at rest, I have for over 50 years, used Nikon equiptment both film and digital and had a number of breakdowns with them. Now I am using M8 and for almost 12 months have had super use out of it. All mechanical equiptment has some Friday afternoon glitches. Dont even think of it Just use your M8.2 and enjoy. jaapv Posted September 18, 2009 Share #23 Posted September 18, 2009 Hi,I just recently bought a M8.2 and I'm beginning to worry that I made a mistake. In reading here about the shutter failures, banding problems that show up late in the game, error mesages and cameras that just quit, did I get into a problem camera that I'm forever going to be sending off for repair or otherwise not being able to depend on? I've had film Leicas that mostly always worked with little or no attention. I realize that an electronic based camera is not going to be exactly the same but holy cow that sounds like a lot of problems. Can somebody here please do a little hand holding for me....or give me the bad news? thank you....I think. Just shoot the thing. M8 two original M8 cameras were rock solid for nearly three years - and so are the vast majority. The internet is a gathering place for tales of woe. The internet is a gathering place for tales of woe. Exactly the same for me. The only problems experienced were battery life at -40c; this coming winter I might try taking the camera battery out to keep it warm. I think the M8 is a fantastic camera. rknewcomb Posted September 18, 2009 Author Share #25 Posted September 18, 2009 I feel better now. Hey, at least I got everybody to say positive things about their camera! Thank you!
viramati Posted September 18, 2009 Share #26 Posted September 18, 2009 well until yesterday I've been a D700 and dlux 4 user. now I'm the proud owner of a 2 months old 8.2 with full passport and a saving of £1000. also bought leica summicron 35, zeiss 25/2.8, voigtlander 50/1.5 all for just over £5000 (which is pretty much the cost of the M9). will be keeping D700 for low light and field work and 8.2 for around town and people. I'm a pretty happy Bunny except for a groaning credit card!!
gwelland Posted September 19, 2009 Share #27 Posted September 19, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now is a great time to get into M8 & M8.2 ownership. Prices are lower, dealers are no doubt doing great deals to move stock and the used market is buoyant. What better time to pick up one of these great cameras? You've just got to avoid the allure of the scarce new shiny version. (I confess I'm guilty of this!)
hookonclassic Posted September 19, 2009 Share #28 Posted September 19, 2009 M8.2 is a very nice camera to own, going to be collector item (LOL, very shot production time 2008 to 2009) with sapphire glass and all the added advantage over M8. No worry. I have no issue with it. Only love it!
LukaK Posted September 19, 2009 Share #29 Posted September 19, 2009 It was a mistake in buying one only if you don't use it. Every camera has problems.

Olsen Posted September 22, 2009 Share #31 Posted September 22, 2009 I just got confirmed a sale here in Norway of a black M8 'filters and an memo card included' at 14.000 NOK. Should equal $ 2,333/€ 1.650. Generally, the 2.hand market is 'dead' here in Norway, right now.
Ozkar Posted September 22, 2009 Share #32 Posted September 22, 2009 There are some great deals around at present. Camera Lane in Australia just sold a mint M8.2 for USD$3090 (excluding tax). ChrisC Posted September 22, 2009 Share #33 Posted September 22, 2009 Many of us on the forum lived through the growing pains of the M8. It had issues, Leica were culpable, they released the M8 before it was truly ready, they rightly got a lot of flack for doing so, but on the other hand - maybe M8 sales went some way to saving a seemingly floundering company. I bought an M8. The M8.2 is an improvement in some areas on the M8 [not including the 'S' for Stupid mode], and by it's release the reports of camera problems on this forum had slowed to an occasional trickle. Current M8.2 cameras are fairly problem free, you have no need to worry any more than with another make of camera, and it is no coincidence that the larger chip in the M9 is essentially the same generation of chip in your M8.2. Cartier Bresson and Gene Smith never had such a camera. Hey; it's a disposable digital camera not an investment - so let your talent loose and make a significant body of work until you feel a need to replace it. Unless your museum prints are larger than 30 inches x 20, get photographing and cease worrying. ............. Chris
dcuthbert Posted September 22, 2009 Share #34 Posted September 22, 2009 I don't regret getting my M8 for one minute. The M8.2 didn't even factor into my thought process and the same goes for the M9. The M8, and associated glass, is capable of producing amazing images. Yes there are problems at high ISO, but I don't want to go out and shoot at night, so it doesn't bother me. Having just returned from a short assignment to Rome and Barcelona, I'm utterly amazed at the images produced using the M8, 50 cron and 24 Lux. It was a joy to use.
