albertwang Posted November 20, 2006 Share #1 Posted November 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Loved the new James Bond flick and saw a ton of Sony gadgets. I am stunned that Leica hasn't shown up in a 007 adventure yet. It would be the ideal product placement. Have Bond shooting a M8 no kidding. Craig is awesome. More visceral than Connery. It's like the digiupgrade of the M series.
Advertisement Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Hi albertwang, Take a look here Casino Royale and branding. . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted November 20, 2006 Share #2 Posted November 20, 2006 It wouldn't surprise me to find that he used an M3 in the early films.
stunsworth Posted November 20, 2006 Share #3 Posted November 20, 2006 Yup, a sadistic mysoginist homicidal killer, perfect :-) Perhaps Sony have a somewhat larger marketing budget.
stunsworth Posted November 20, 2006 Share #4 Posted November 20, 2006 It wouldn't surprise me to find that he used an M3 in the early films. Or early films in his M3 for that matter ;-)
spylaw4 Posted November 20, 2006 Share #5 Posted November 20, 2006 Agreed - Craig is far better than Brosnan, Moore, Dalton, and arguably (dare I say it) Connery. Shameless product placement - I wonder how much Ford and PAG paid. Did anyone note the new Mondeo (yet to be released)?

grober Posted November 20, 2006 Share #7 Posted November 20, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) You're all on to something here... I am now able to disclose (from a secure location, of course) that the M10 will actually look and wear exactly like a size 9 tassled loafer. Exactly 50% of the initial run has already been consigned to selected MI5 agents. To activate its photographic function one must only slightly reposition the heel and a compact 24/1.4 Summilux ASPH will be exposed to capture the passing scene. Shhh -- don't tell anyone! -g
nemeng Posted November 20, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 20, 2006 AFAIK Leica cameras haven't appeared in any Bond films (correct me if I'm wrong). They've appeared in a few of Brendan Fraser's films though. Maybe because he's a keen amateur photographer & committed Leica fan?...
stuny Posted November 20, 2006 Share #9 Posted November 20, 2006 In the US there is a new TV series called 6 Degrees. The formerly washed up photographer who has found his vision again (played by Campbell Scott) said in a recent episode that he shot a praticular book with his Leica M5. In an earlier episode we see him regaining his vision with a Leica rangefinder -- probably M5.
Overgaard Posted November 20, 2006 Share #10 Posted November 20, 2006 The funniest product placement I saw was in the Hamilton movie (Hamilton is the Swedish 007 with licence to kill) was when Hamilton used a gazoline card for the Norwegian/Swedish state owned oil compnay STATOIL. I'm sure it was a joke on product placements because it was so obvious and the card so well lit (even movie databases claim Statoil paid 67,000$ to be in there for 3 seconds). I think the problem is 007 never used any camera as far as I remember.
marknorton Posted November 20, 2006 Share #11 Posted November 20, 2006 Saw Casino Royale yesterday and the amount of branding was hilarious... - Parking lots full of Ford cars - own brand, Jaguar, Range Rover, Aston Martin plus (if I had recognised them) numerous anonymous looking US "sedans", Ford's bread and butter cars, I assume. - Sony Vaio laptops and Sony Ericsson phones - Virgin Atlantic planes with a cameo appearance by Richard Branson in the airport scene - Omega Watches - they even had the line "my watch is an Omega" in the script. Product placement or what??? There were probably lots more I missed. I was too busy looking at Eva Green... No Leicas though.
albertwang Posted November 20, 2006 Author Share #12 Posted November 20, 2006 Agreed. Even Ronin had a wonderful Leica R camera in use.
chrisweeks Posted November 20, 2006 Share #13 Posted November 20, 2006 product placement agents receive money to place products ... i doubt leica would be willing to spend that kind of money ... that said, they did have a major placement in "Euro Trip." robert_parker Posted November 20, 2006 Share #14 Posted November 20, 2006 It would really make a great idea to place a Leica in a James Bond movie - the 'fit' would be every bit as good as that of Omega or Aston and probably ebvery bit as beneficial for sales. Mind you they're probably waiting for the launch of the Leica ...M16....
stunsworth Posted November 20, 2006 Share #15 Posted November 20, 2006 I once worked for what was then the largest steel stock holding company in the UK. They were trying to get a deal with Ford and there was a party from Ford visiting the head office. For one day only you were only allowed to park in the company car park if you drove a Ford in hope this would impress the visitors. Tossers!
nachkebia Posted November 20, 2006 Share #16 Posted November 20, 2006 Naaah, bond is classic, M8 is not, MP should be there for sure
engelfangen Posted November 20, 2006 Share #17 Posted November 20, 2006 I think the problem is 007 never used any camera as far as I remember. I think he used a Hasselblad once that was in fact a gun. But I can't remember in what movie. Greetings Marc

abrewer Posted November 20, 2006 Share #19 Posted November 20, 2006 "PAG" is Ford's "Premier Automotive Group" which are the Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar and Aston Martin brands...as opposed to their "Volume Group" of Ford, Lincoln, Mercury and Mazda. Thanks. Allan
wide.angle Posted November 20, 2006 Share #20 Posted November 20, 2006 I grew up under my Dad's wing watching Bond movies. From this experience, I'd have to say that the M8 could only show up if it did something other than photography; e.g., he pretended to be a photographer, but was in fact using the display and buttons on the back as controls for flying a boat in remote control fashion, etc. Haven't seen the latest one yet, thought I'd take him to see it over Thanksgiving.
