adan Posted September 18, 2009 Share #61 Posted September 18, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) For the record - I received my M9 in Denver Thursday. But I preordered "whatever it is, whatever it costs (within reason), whatever color is first available." in mid-August, about the time that French store first leaked the specs and €5500 price. My understanding is that Leica normally ships 2-day-air within the States, so they must have cleared customs, gotten to Allendale, and been reshipped to dealers with orders in place by Tuesday sometime. Which argues for either excellent efficiency - or a small number of units to handle. I really don't know how many were in that shipment, or what color distribution (I got black). I also don't know how many my rep and region got - maybe 2 or 3, maybe just mine. Frank - I may have got my wires crossed - may be 1000 per month. Sean or Dave, who were part of the Leica factory tour/pre-release, may have a better handle on the figures.
Advertisement Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Hi adan, Take a look here Current wait for an M9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wlaidlaw Posted September 18, 2009 Share #62 Posted September 18, 2009 My gosh 1000 per week.....that is 50,000 per year isn't it? Stefan said that "M's" sell 10-12K per year normally and the M8 did much more in year one (I understand it was 20,000). If they did sell 50,000 in the next 12 months that would be superb and allow significant cost reductions, improvements to Leica financials etc. Does anyone know if 1000 per week is correct. ? Makes you wonder why they would bother with 1,000 S2's a year. Wilson

My understanding is, that the US shipments have not started. Unless you spend 12k... I hope I am wrong.
adan Posted September 18, 2009 Share #64 Posted September 18, 2009 No - I ordered through my local Denver dealer. The French store leak just "inspired" the order. As I said, we didn't know what it was or what the catalog number would be or when it would be delivered - I just said "put me on the list", and since he didn't have a list, he started one with my name at the top. dfarkas Posted September 18, 2009 Share #65 Posted September 18, 2009 I thnk I may have mixed up my numbers earlier. Stefan Daniel said that they expect to make about 12,000 M9s per year, which would be the 1,000 a month as Andy mentinoed. This would put production somewhere around 40-50 cameras per day. Hope this clarifies. David

He said: > 10-12K per year for "M" digital camera > actually he also said that M7+ MP was of same order per year as the digital and that this was unbelievable but true, with most cameras going to USA) > I did not understand if M7/MP plus M digital was 10-12K as a TOTAL or each product family drove these volumes. > When M8 was first introduced he said volumes were much higher ( I believe the number 20KU has had resonance with people on the forum and that would make sense) What must be critical for Leica is how to get the volumes much higher than 20KU in the next 12 months in my view. This can reshape the fortunes of the company dramatically going forward.
Shootist Posted September 18, 2009 Share #67 Posted September 18, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) This would put production somewhere around 40-50 cameras per day. Hope this clarifies. David If that is really the case they should of stopped M8.2 production back in June or July and at the latest the first of August. If that is all they are producing a day it will be a long wait for some M9 buyers.

Good to know, at least some have made it through the channels in the US. I placed mine on order the same week as the 9/9/9 event was rumored. I did not state a color, as we did not know at that time, even then I was third on the list. The dealer has not even seen one except for the demo model that the Leica rep brought for the 9/9 event. carlmuck Posted September 18, 2009 Share #69 Posted September 18, 2009 Just talked to Willoughby's - they called me. They have a black M9 for sale right now BUT it only comes in a "package". Oh darn. Billingham bag, big sd card, and a 35 Summilux - $12000. They will not sell the body alone. hmmm. How does Leica feel about this, I wonder?-Ron Well apparently they couldn't get anyone to bite on the package deal, so now their website lists a black M9 body for $8999. I bought my M8 from them, I guess I'll just wait and go through someone less avaricious. c.
johnbuckley Posted September 18, 2009 Share #70 Posted September 18, 2009 I believe Andy is the first certified recipient of an M9 in the U.S. Andy, congratulations, and I am very happy for you. (I did get a phone call that made me happy today. Having responded in mid-summer when the rumors started flying by asking to be put on a dealer's list, a black M9 is wending its way to me, and should touch down sometime Monday. I am genuinely looking forward to a weekend's use of my M8u, as an amateur wedding photographer at my niece's wedding.)

I've purchased several Leica items from Willoughby's in the past, but with price gouging like that they are losing another customer. Rocky
