Last nite I received my new 16GB Ultra II cards. They say 15MB-Class 4 on them.

I compared their speed to my 8GB Transcend Class 6 cards:

Ultra II -- 7-8 dng captures before buffer full, 18 or 29 seconds to recover fully (comp vs non-comp)

Transc - 7-8 cng captures, 10 or 20 seconds to recover (light stops blinking)

The camera is ready to capture another (only one) image in 2 - 3 seconds, but I shoot dance images in gropups not in ones.

The packaging for the Ultra's are marked 100x I believe the slower Transcend was marked 150x. And, I don't understand how the class 4 card can be faster then the class 6. I thot the Class rating was also the write speed, class 6 being 6gm/sec, and so on.

Anyway the Ultra II's are 2x as fast as the Transcend's.

I don't quite understand. From your data the Transcend are faster, not the Ultras.

I have been using Transcends (also marked 150x) in the M8 and was planning to continue in the M9. Now I am totally confused.

Is anyone using the 32gb ultra ii's? I see them for $80 at Adorama.

BTW, the 2gb and the 16gb show the same writing speeds in my tests.

Bill,

When I bought my 16GB Ultra II's from Amazon France, the 32GB cards were over 4 times the price of a 16GB one, so I decided not to bother. Once the price loading comes down to equate to the minor inconvenience factor of carrying two cards, I will go for a 32 GB one. At the rate memory price is dropping, that will be about three months. The 64MB card I bought for my Digilux Zoom, was around £150 in 1999!

An interesting thread.

I have just tested a 16gb Extreme III and the writing time for 7 uncompressed .dng files is 19 seconds, a 4gb Extreme III took 28 seconds, and 4gb Panasonic 'Class 6' took 21 seconds, all timed from end of sequence to the light stopping blinking.

Wilson, I paid about $40 for the 16gb Ultra II cards I bot and I see a 32 for $80 at Adorama, today.

I was waiting for the price to drop, as well, and may wait a little longer, but I thot maybe someone has one and can advise.

Geez, I'm only getting a few hundred images on the 16GB card. Joking aside, this would not normally be a problem, but the bride recently made a 1-hour dance. I didn't have the M9 at that time, so my M8 handled the task with an 8Gb card just fine.

Try as I may, I can't seem to stop feeding files to my disk farm!
