FastFashnReloaded Posted September 9, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ok, I can't afford an M9 (yet) as an M9 comes out to being about nine weeks pay after taxes. Howevahhhhh... I fi-gure Quicksdraw, that an M8'll be sellin' on EBay at a really good-old price now. Anyone else feeling the same way? Get an M8, build up some lenses for a starter system, keep the Oly DSLR system going. What do y'all think?

stunsworth Posted September 9, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 9, 2009 I'm betting on a mid 2k$ price. At £1 = $1.60 it already is.
FastFashnReloaded Posted September 9, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted September 9, 2009 At £1 = $1.60 it already is. Hi Steve. Sorry, just home from work and having a bit of dinner. So, bit slow... Please explain. Are you saying new M8 bodies are in the 2k range now?

Good deal! My offer was Euro 1000 for a trade in for M9! I had to laugh an walked out. The more i read about the M9 the more i am convinced to skip this upgrade BTW. stunsworth Posted September 9, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 9, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) My UK dealer is saying that he may offer £1500 for an M8 to someone upgrading to an M9. At current exchange rates £1500 is about $2500.
wilfredo Posted September 9, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 9, 2009 After seeing the first batch of actual pictures with the M9 posted on this forum, I am even more convinced of the wisdom of holding onto my M8 and not spending thousands of dollars for more megapixels (not to mention the money I would lose by selling it). Be Happy...

Be Happy... I'm with you. As a working pro, i'd rather let the dentists and hobbyists run out and update. It makes Leica's bottom line look good, the flower photographers rave about 18mb pics and eventually the market for 8.2s will be reasonable.
fishblimp Posted September 10, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 10, 2009 I will probably be selling my 8.2 (VERY low shutter count) soon. Message me if you're interested. I have to figure out a price, however.
plasticman Posted September 10, 2009 Share #12 Posted September 10, 2009 It's the wide angle lenses remaining wide that's the real draw. Why do people still judge photos based on a 72dpi screen shot? Some of us have downloaded DNGs - and are still not convinced. However, knowing the way things are, I will probably buy the M9 at some point and have to eat my words. When I have time I'm going to take my M8 along to a local dealer and do some direct side-by-side comparisons. Anyway, there should be a quick burst of used M8s out there for a while - get one quick if I were you. I confidently think once the dust has settled and the early adopters have all get their shiny new M9s, the M8 will become more scarce again.

Then he will soon be out of business. The only logical thing for your dealer is to resell 2.hand M8s that he has traded in for £ 1500 for £ 2000. A similar sum that you could get if you sell it directly to a user yourself.
stunsworth Posted September 10, 2009 Share #14 Posted September 10, 2009 Then he will soon be out of business. Cheers, I'll tell him that the next time I see him. Personally I think expecting £2000 for a used M8 is being optimistic given the number that are going to come onto the market.
pgk Posted September 10, 2009 Share #15 Posted September 10, 2009 If I got £1500 for mine I'd be very satisfied and reckon it would have been a cheaper camera to own than my Canons!

Personally I think expecting £2000 for a used M8 is being optimistic given the number that are going to come onto the market. Well. it is a bit early to tell, but here in Norway there is no M8 for sale, right now. While there was a flurry of sales in the 1.half of this year with constantly falling prices. As mentioned before, I guy I know bought a M8 in May/June of this year for NOK 12.000 - the lowest price advertised at that point, and sold it on for NOK 18.000 just a few weeks (days!) ago. So, the price of 2.hand M8 has gone up with the event of the M9 launch. Which is natural. As late as June, many of us thought that the Leica M-system were probably a dead end... Have you checked prices on EBay? I am amazed.... What is typical of the Leica 2.hand market here in Norway right now is a flurry of M6-sales, - with constantly falling prices... rjans Posted September 10, 2009 Share #17 Posted September 10, 2009 I have looked at Ebay Germany. Besides M8 also M8.2's are listed. Concerning prices, approx 2000 Euro for an M8 from private person, around 2400-2500 Euro from professional seller. I'm sure prices will drop in near future. 2500 Euro is to much for a second hand M8, earlier this year I got my brand new M8 including passport for aprrox 2300 Euro. Then € 2.000 - which was the max level I suggested in the start of this thread, can't be so bad after all...
exile Posted September 10, 2009 Share #20 Posted September 10, 2009 I'm also glad that the M9 is out there - it shows renewed comittment by Leica to the M line. However, I haven't yet seen several thousands of [insert high-value currency of your choice] of improvement over my original M8. I'm still getting some really nice shots out of the M8, and see no compelling reason to upgrade at this stage. I'm not even sure I'll pick up an M9 once I have saved the money and they become available second hand. Maybe I'll wait until the M10. That could be another 5+ years, but so what? I'm hanging onto my money and possibly putting it to lenses or something entirely different - I still don't have a flat-screen TV!
