and specs .... 6995- US

I guess the wait is over.

;D

They also have the X1 there, at $1995. But is seems as the X1 has an unchangeable fix focused lens, a bit strange when you look at it competitors

The price in Spain is 5456.00 € including 16% VAT - The delivery begin next thursday: Next Friday – Saturday, I shall pick-up my M9 at my dealer

Don't forget to post some pictures.

Here's the Popflash ad: LEICA M9 STEEL GRAY PAINT FULL FRAME DIGITAL CAMERA BODY ONLY USA NEW!

I'm holding steady with the M8. From what I can see, the M9 is a full frame M8 that requires no IR/UV filters and has added megapixels. Until we actually see how it performs, we won't have any real information.

This $2000.00 X1 does not excite me: http://www.popflash.com/index.php?p=product&id=4316&parent=0 At the very least they could have gone with a micro 4/3 system like the Olympus PEN. I'm not impressed. The price tags are what I expected which is a disappointment.

The very knowledgeable Mr Mancuso, in another thread, suggests hidden delights as yet undisclosed, that may sway the undecided.

It's pretty close to the expected price so if there are any 'extras', that may help in the decision making process.

Regarding the X1. My guess is that Leica positions this as the discussed "entry level M". A downscaled real M are to expensive to manufacture, THis one gives you Leica glass, it cheap compared to a real M, but that comes at a price (reduced sensor and unchangeable lenses)

My local dealer has the M9 for $11,994AUD...

M9 pricing at Vanbar

I will not be getting an M9 at the price for a very long time...

With the price of trans-Pacific airfares at the moment, a quick roundtrip to the US is looking like a good deal (supposing you feel up to rustling the $6995 price there). I too will be taking stock of the Aussie prices (as well as the US ones) for a little moment or three.

Erl,

Who is your Melbourne dealer? Not sure who in Sydney is going to have an M9 on the shelf. Vanbar in Sydney does not have anything, everything comes from Melbourne. I expect Foto Reisel will be the only store in Sydney that will actually have an M9 to demo.

I was reasonably in the market at $9000AUD or so, since this would be about the exchange cost of the US price plus GST. But at $12,000AUD, I will order one from the states, have it sent to my parents and have a friend bring it back with them. $7000USD is only about $8200AUD at todays exchange rate, heck, I would even be happy to pay GST on the amount, still saving $3000AUD!

I am hoping my (Melbourne) dealer will be quoting better than that!

I suspect Vanbar's is not the best place to buy Leica.

I certainly hope you are correct in that. I would be searching and bargaining for a sharper deal (even though it is unlikely to happen for a few months in my case). I did see somewhere that an Auckland dealer has it down for around NZD11,000 which would translate into a far more attractive proposition for Australians. We probably need to kick back for a few days or longer and see where it all falls after the 'market' opens. There are a certainly many people who can and will pay the RRP (and I am happy for them) however I cannot pretend to be in such a position :o

I haven't yet had time to talk with Foto Riesel (my favourite port of call as a rule), and I too was hoping for a bit of magic around the AUD9000 or less. A three thousand dollar saving would be a long way towards an extra lens, wouldn't it? ;)
