luigi bertolotti Posted September 8, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 8, 2009 Well... "World's most compact FF digital camera" is a fine Mktg tag : and, being undoubtly true from tomorrow, Leica I hope will make a smart use of this.
mboerma Posted September 8, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted September 8, 2009 Talking about mindless bashers - read the comments Yep, there are always people who like to bash and talk negative. I think that Leica deliveres something amazing if they announce the FF M9 with the same or better quality files as the M8 and with more versatility when it comes to ISO sensitivity. I will have to sell my Nocti F1 to be buy it though.
futureancient Posted September 8, 2009 Share #6 Posted September 8, 2009 " I do agree with Eugene that Leica probably lacks Canon and Nikon's expertise in digital imaging." This comment is laughable. As are many of those below that article.
AbbeyPhoto Posted September 8, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yep, there are always people who like to bash and talk negative. I think that Leica deliveres something amazing if they announce the FF M9 with the same or better quality files as the M8 and with more versatility when it comes to ISO sensitivity. It will be pretty disappointing if Leica delivers a camera with the same quality of files but which costs double .... for this much money it has to be very very good I will have to sell my Nocti F1 to be buy it though. That would be a silly thing to do - to use a slower lens on a faster-ISO body means you dont advance at all. Keep the nocti until you can afford an M9 - this is Leica, bodies come & go, but lenses are for life
John Thawley Posted September 8, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 8, 2009 Talking about mindless bashers - read the comments I stopped reading when the one guy started waxing on poetically about his Sony Alpha or some such. LOL Talk about uninformed. I mean I get great service from my Canon gear.... and as I posted there, they're the necessary tools for me to do my version of digging ditches. But, if I only took pictures for the love of taking pictures, it'd be with an M9 and a handful of primes. JT

Most likely it's great, but I would want to see that before making statements such as yours. —Mitch/Potomac, MD Bangkok Hysteria©: Book Project

This comment is laughable. As are many of those below that article. Laughable? This is fan-boy-speak. It's certainly true that Canon and Nikon has a lot more experience and depth in digital imaging than Leica. Certainly neither has produced a top-end digital camera without direct ISO control (not through a menu) or direct EV control, as Leica did until it changed the latter on the M8.2. —Mitch/Potomac, MD Bangkok Hysteria©: Book Project
marioalessi Posted September 9, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 9, 2009 A computer pretty much controls a large part of the operation, which previously was to do with mechanics. The mechanics were engineered and stayed there. Now light strikes something that can be essentially change and processed right then inside the computer brain. But in both cases humans came up with the ideas and the solutions. Perhaps now robots or computer controlled equipment can make parts of everyones camera. From an Optimist standpoint, I think you only need some intelligent people with the will to invent the solution. And in this day and age as as easy for a small company with prestige, experience, and determination, to create solutions that are equal or surpass a large company, that may have less determination, or a will to produce simply based upon the final profit margin, or even perhaps a lower drive or morale to create real solutions to real problems. Many of the "features" in comupter programs, and computer driven equipment, are nothing more that hollow uses features that we dont really need, and serve no other purpose than to say my "magic number is 1 larger than your magic number, so I am better" It didn't take a giant company to create Leica optics, why would people keep thinking that Leica cant attract, hire, or subcontract a couple of intelligent people to create the software driving a new sensor, or develop some way to produce something that is affordable. Personally I'd rather own something created by a smaller company than a larger company. I think you get more of a concise human element engineered into that product. So Ill stay an Optimist, and believe that Leica has made an awesome new camera, that somehow I can purchase, use, enjoy, share the results with those around me.
