melanger Posted September 8, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) For reasons unknown to me processed film shot with my R4s is consistently sharper than that shot with my R7. This is the case whether I shoot with a 28 mm f2.8 elmarit, 50 mm f2.0 summicron or 135 mm f2.8 elmarit. An odd thing about the R7 is that when focusing the 28 mm f2.8 elmarit at infinity it appears to be not precisely in focus--I feel the need to turn the lens a bit more counterclockwise, but of course it won't turn further. Has anyone else had this experience? All comments would be greatly appreciated.

rsh Posted September 8, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 8, 2009 Focus may need adjusting on the R7. No biggie.
storybrown Posted September 8, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2009 My R4sP is consistently sharp, too, whatever the lens, unless I provide a focusing problem of my own. It's no sharper than my R8, though, and, as rsh suggests, I'm sure an adjustment to your R7 will fix everything.
hamey Posted September 8, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 8, 2009 Thats strange, Remember the R7 has a Diopter adjuster, the R4 hasn't so check that. Also you can check the Viewfinder screen, make sure it's sitting home properly. I love using my R7's...... Excellent Camera. Good luck
E.M Posted September 9, 2009 Share #5 Posted September 9, 2009 I had this with a Nikon F2 years ago, the mirror happened to be slightly out of its normal position. Like you, I couldn't focus infinity. It was a minor repair. Etienne Michiels

tobey bilek Posted September 10, 2009 Share #8 Posted September 10, 2009 Have the R7 focusing checked and the mirror dampening and for any other reason. You might focus with a single lens on both bodies and compare results. The 7 will produce sharper hand held pics than a 4 because the 4 & 5 have no mirror dampening. I did lots of tests and sold mine when the 6 came out because that was first with mirror dampening other than the Leicaflex series and R3. My 4`s went back several times to Leica who never fixed them. I guess a repair shop can`t reengineer them.
