Advertisement Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Hi cocker, Take a look here M9? - I'm with him on the Kodachrome. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Mark Pope Posted September 7, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 7, 2009 Excellent! Though clearly he hasn't been following the forum. Scene modes?:D:D Cheers Mark
jaapv Posted September 7, 2009 Share #3 Posted September 7, 2009 I suppose it is well done. However, the wounds of war run deep, even if I am post-war born. I always have great difficulty with the cartoon-figure. Not funny to me.
Guest BigSplash Posted September 7, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 7, 2009 I suppose it is well done. However, the wounds of war run deep, even if I am post-war born. I always have great difficulty with the cartoon-figure. Not funny to me. I agree. I am post war and not Jewish but am half German & half English...... I think although this video has been well edited some people will be offended and linking this spoof of Hitler to Leica and M9 is well in my opinion tasteless and probably deeply hurtful to some. I believe that if the moderators feel the need to remove the mini brochure on M9 that is widely available via Google and will in any case be published in two days time .......they would do well to consider removing this link that does little for Leica prestige or the forum.. I did not want to put it that strongly, but well, yes, I find it is.
cocker Posted September 7, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted September 7, 2009 While I have no wish to offend anyone I make no apologies for posting this. I am personally fed up of the moronic inanity, hysteria and stupidity that characterises many of the M9 posts. I have not commented on them. I follow the advice that has been offered. I ignore them and focus on those posts that interest me and that I believe have some substance. I suggest others follow the same advice with posts they don't like. I find this spoof funny. Quite a few others do. I accept that some may not. We are all human and different.

'Der Untergang' director Oliver Hirschbiegel will be pleased you appreciate how well he cut his film.

I think some people will be sensitive to this kind of video on a Leica Forum and since we are not allowed to see M9 brochures as people at Leica maybe upset ....well I hope you get my point! Guest John66 Posted September 7, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 7, 2009 Well, I found it very funny, and chuckled all the way through.
Venkman Posted September 7, 2009 Share #11 Posted September 7, 2009 It's an internet tradition by now - a running gag. Virtually dozens of topics have been commented by using that particular scene from "Downfall" - new gaming consoles, disbanding of music groups (Oasis), death of MJ, Usain Bolt's world record, etc. . It's used because the german part sounds probably like gibberish to most non german speakers, so you can have a go at the subtitles (combined with brilliant acting by Bruno Ganz). Search youtube for it, some of them are extremely well made P.S. Just found this one:
scsambrook Posted September 7, 2009 Share #12 Posted September 7, 2009 The clip made me smile - but that doesn't mean I find Hitler amusing. Mocking the evil figures of history through parody is itself traditional and part of the long term process of cultural recovery. It certainly doesn't imply disrespect for those who've suffered at their hands.
microview Posted September 7, 2009 Share #13 Posted September 7, 2009 Well, I found it very funny, and chuckled all the way through. Absolutely: not the first one from Downfall either. Earlier we had Hitler ordering his new Volkswagen: profane and fantastic! Oops, hadn't seen Venkman's posting when I added this.

In this case, mockery does not involve direspect for Hitler's victims, quite the opposite IMHO.
jaapv Posted September 7, 2009 Share #15 Posted September 7, 2009 It is all a matter of degree, I suppose. I think we can all agree that John Cleese was funny, and that a comedy in a concentration camp would be unacceptable. In between?A gliding scale. I can understand that some will find it funny, and would never call for censorship, but for me it is firmly in the non-funny group.
