Catatac Posted September 7, 2009 Share #1  Posted September 7, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all  My friend is arranging a photo session with some models for nude portraits and has invited me to attend However, I must confess that this isnt an area that I have had experience before or have ever focused upon. Can anyone give me guidance as to photgraphers that have focused on this particular type of photography. I can think of Helmut Newton but thats about all....  Thanks !  Cat

Jamie Roberts Posted September 7, 2009 Share #11  Posted September 7, 2009 Hi all My friend is arranging a photo session with some models for nude portraits and has invited me to attend However, I must confess that this isnt an area that I have had experience before or have ever focused upon. Can anyone give me guidance as to photgraphers that have focused on this particular type of photography. I can think of Helmut Newton but thats about all....  Thanks !  Cat  Well, if I had a friend doing ths, I might just use the M camera and a reasonably wide like a 24 or 28 to document what he or she was doing with the model. IOW focus on the event instead of the formal aspects of the photography, because no-one will teach them to you in time if you don't already know them.  Not exactly studio glamour work, but probably more interesting overall than trying to make "studies" that have been done a gazillion times... Unless, of course, they're for your own education in which case, it doesn't much matter what we tell you.

butchhul Posted September 7, 2009 Share #15 Â Posted September 7, 2009 On the off-chance that this is a serious question, consider the work of Edward Weston, Bill Brandt, Jean Loup Sieff, Tom Millea, Bob Carlos Clark, Joyce Tennyson, or Robert Maplethorpe. Â Otherwise, have fun.

Finnkare Posted September 7, 2009 Share #17 Â Posted September 7, 2009 And it is good manners to keep yours on. Â I wouldn't be so sure... I could imagine that if a model feels uncomfortable it would be encouraging if the photographer was naked too. And - let's face it - it's only fair! Joseph Reid Posted September 7, 2009 Share #19 Â Posted September 7, 2009 In addition to names already mentioned try looking at work by Ruth Bernhard and Ralph Gibson (Leica user). They are at two ends of the spectrum but both work (in Berhnard's case worked) in black and white. Â As for the shoot itself, I suggest you be thoroughly prepared. Don't waste time fumbling with gear, do have a vision of what you want to capture and be able to communicate that to the models. Be respectful, never touch the models, and have a purpose in mind for your pictures. Â Best of luck.
Finnkare Posted September 7, 2009 Share #20 Â Posted September 7, 2009 Petter Hegre is a photographer, who is balancing on the line between art and pure eroticism. His pictures are not at all sleezy or unprofessional in the stereotypical pornish way, but they are still openly sexual. Whether he could be of any inspiration to you, depends on the goal of the project.
