wetterzentrale Posted September 6, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 6, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Wow, after all the attention around new models arising here comes a completely different question : I am planning to buy a small allrounder lens for my M8 and was thinking of the 1,4/35. while the ASPH version is for budget reason out of scope at the moment , I am considering to look for a pre-ASPH version from Canada ... While Mr Puts is pretty clear on this lens, some of the contributions in this forum are pretty confusing. One thread showed pictures which lacked the sharpness I expect from a Leica lens (almost reminding me of Mr Hamiltons erotic works 30 years ago ) while another one showed crisp useful result at 1,4 ... Is it possible that different canada models come up with a huge bandwidth of results ? Are you having sample pictures of the 1,4/35 at full aperture ? Greatly appreciate your thoughts and experience !
Advertisement Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 Hi wetterzentrale, Take a look here NOT another M9 thread .... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gwelland Posted September 6, 2009 Share #2 Posted September 6, 2009 If you are looking for the equivalent of the venerable 35mm from film then you might want to also consider the 28 'cron. The 35 'lux will be close to an equivalent 50mm FoV on the M8 if that's what you are after.
wetterzentrale Posted September 6, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted September 6, 2009 Thanks Graham I was actually thinking of the 28 as well but prefer the lowlight ability to the wideangle as I have a 21 already ... Really concerned about the image quality of the 35 pre ASPH ...
lct Posted September 6, 2009 Share #4 Posted September 6, 2009 Thanks Graham I was actually thinking of the 28 as well but prefer the lowlight ability to the wideangle as I have a 21 already ... Really concerned about the image quality of the 35 pre ASPH ... There are differences obviously but if you're after a sharp 35 at f/1,4 the pre-asph Summilux is not for you. Try the CV 35/1.4 SC instead. It is sharper than the 'lux at f/1.4 with the same smooth bokeh. It suffers focus shift though. Also it flares a lot, more so than the latest pre-asph Summilux.
