kidigital Posted November 19, 2006 Author Share #5 Posted November 19, 2006 Thanks Victor, I'm not using any filters. I have been using the profile that Jamie Roberts has developed for the magenta cast. Although, on these outdoor photos it probably wouldn't make too much of a difference. The colors would be a bit warmer with the generic M8 profile in C1. With all of the hoopla surrounding the M8 introduction, many people don't realize just how good of a camera it is to use. I used the RD-1, but the M8 really seems set up to optimize the capture of colors Leica lenses are known to render. My strategy with the camera is, while shooting, to dial exposure back -1/3 to -1/2 to burn in the blacks. I've done nothing more to the images than that. In another thread, you asked about the 75lux. This attached image is with the 75. As you can see, I think it is going to be a great combination. I'm still adjusting to the frame lines, focus, etc. so I just missed the subject's open eyes as the group was walking down the street (they bill themselves as the Dancing Grannies ). But, you get the idea...the softness and bokeh are wonderful to work with on the M8. Thanks Ed. Kurt

vic vic Posted November 20, 2006 Share #8 Posted November 20, 2006 thanks kurt... ya, very true about the adjusting the speed comesation... dont know how it is with m8 but generally it goes well with the basic idea of exposing the images in digi acording to highlights.... tried it with the d-lux-2, leaf digi back, and imacon/hasselblad digi back, and it is indeed the best way on all of those digis... u simply get richness in tonality etc... hope the things about m8 will be sorted out soon... ah, about the 75summiluxx focusing and comfort... two tips if u r new to it... 1. since the magnification of the m8 is very small (0.7??), then better use that 1.25 magnifier with it.... it is great lens but needs care.... 0.85 is ok, but 0.7 is not confident enough i think. 2. it is a very big lens relativly... and it is not good idea to hold the camera with lens the same way as u do with other lenses... a trick is, first to put the lens into your left hand comortably in working position, and only then to put your right hand on the camera.. this way u will have a greater balance with it.. actually a great balance can be achived.. and u can work faster... as if u use it like big long gun in your hand (like m16).... this is the best with it i think.... do u have some "close-up" portraits with it and m8??? fotografr Posted November 21, 2006 Share #14 Posted November 21, 2006 Beautiful work, Kurt. The colors are amazingly neutral--skin tones look perfect to my eye. Your choice of large apertures produced some very appealing bokeh. These images look closer to film than anything I've seen yet from a digital camera. I was already eager to get my M8, but after seeing these I'm about ready to go to Solms and camp on the Leica doorsteps.
ddp Posted November 21, 2006 Share #15 Posted November 21, 2006 Looks like you nailed the color balance & skin tones here. And the shots are good as well. This is what I'd like to see out of the M8! I suspect we're going to start seeing more of what this camera is capable of as people get a handle on the workflow that suits them best.
