One M9 feature I want that nobody mentioned

Someone should make an accessory winder that just releases the shutter button. So you use discreet mode, and the 'winder' prevents the button from coming back up until you 'wind' it...

problem solved :)

Sort of like a Visoflex III with a shutter release cable, you mean... :D

may be that's the reason I did not get an M8.

The full frame M9 is a different story of course, but man I have to get used to that design.

A screen that could fold back, like the RD-1 would have been great too,

never checks my shots while I am out shooting.

It is an irony that just when battery life actually became an every day issue (because da sensor simply doesn't work without juice) that manufacturers dropped one key part of the traditional camera that would save significant amounts of juice.

It does make you wonder if there isn't some kind of fetish about making every last function electronically controlled.

I seem to recall someone on the forum measuring the actual power usage of the recock and saying it would be a relatively inconsequential power saving to have a manual mechanism.

Mark Norton's investigation of current consumption and battery life showed that the shutter-cocking motor only accounts for a small proportion of the M8's total energy consumption.

Next people will be asking to have the starter motor deleted off their cars and go back to a starting handle. After all it is quieter, does not go wrong and gives you that certain something when you finally succeed in turning the engine over - frequently a broken wrist.

Still if the battery died and I was stuck, hell I'd appreciate that crank broken wrist (or thumb) and all. If you read the post I said overide of course.

As someone who not infrequently has to crank start various elderly cars e.g. 1904 Panhard et Levassor 15HP, give me an electric starter every time. If it was not so bulky, I would put a motor drive on my M4.

With all the complaints we had and work they did to help fix the problem, I would think that would be first thing they put on M9. Just move the current hold the shutter button feature to the dedicated lever. Internally, nothing really changes except there is dedicated lever (and of course overridable).

Well, we will see tomorrow, right?
