jaapv Posted September 4, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 4, 2009 Advertisement (gone after registration) Why should you sell:confused: It is a damn fine camera; have you reached the limits of its capabilities yet? If you want to have an M9 too, it is still the best second camera you can imagine.

If you want to have an M9 too, it is still the best second camera you can imagine. Jaapv, I sold my Canon gear because I believe in Leica product. The M8 help me to understand better my style of photography, my composition got better, my focusing got better to, the way the Leica render the light is magical. Now Leica is proposing something even better, M9, I’m not going to turn my back on that, this is what wee all pray for, a better, faster Leica in a M body, the same body structure that HCB used when he shot street photography in Paris back in the 30’s. I can’t afford to keep my M8 right now, but I do have a solid backup, M6 classic. See the way I look at it, the M9 is just another upgrade from a amazing camera. If HCB was a live today, wouldn't he trade is M3 for a M9? Bernard http://www.flickr.com/photos/zimboom

Bernard Flickr: Zimboom's Photostream No offense meant to you at all but I don't think upgrading to the M9 is going to help your photography improve at all. Looking at your flickr work it seems you're really at the beginning stages of forming a style therefore why not stick with your 8.2 until you have mastered it and found there are situations that you "need" the M9 for. If you have the cash for the M9 then by all means go ahead, I would if I could. From a professionals point of view I see no justification for upgrading my M8 and 8.2 to M9's as it's not going to provide anything to my business that the M8 and 8.2 can't already do well enough. If HCB was alive still he would be drawing instead of photographing which is what he was doing in the last part of his life. If he was in his prime I'm sure he'd be too busy making photos to be worried about an 'M9'. A tool is a tool, the person behind the camera makes the image. leicanut2 Posted September 5, 2009 Share #10 Posted September 5, 2009 I am in the same boat I will have to look but I don't think I have shot 25 pics yet with my M8.2 yet. I will box it and take it with me when I go look at the new ones if they can give me a fair price I will trade it in. Its not about how good you are it's about getting a full frame. A 15 will be a 15 a 35 will be 35 etc. I really can't afford keeping it and getting a new one. It would have to go. I would have waited for the full frame . Thank you St-Clair for your honest opinion, it true that I’m not yet a pro, and those picture on Flickr were done with a 40D from Canon in 2008. It’s true that Cartier-Bresson return to drawing at the end of is career but he was not to good at it. Photography was is thing, sort of a second nature to him. This is what I wanted to here from this forum, honest opinion, so now I know I can stick to my M8 for a while and click, click, click...

I think that the M8/8.2 is a very capable camera and I won't be looking to upgrade to the 9 for another year or so. I do disagree with you though that HCB was not good at drawing, some of his sketches were very good. Photography is all about seeing and capturing light, the same as drawing. Analyzing a subject and recording what 'your' eye sees. I believe that a truly gifted artist can transcend mediums.
